Aximsitex50icon Dell Axim x51v CF card

I received a replacement Axim x51v from Dell when I returned my damaged one. I put my SD card and CF card from the old device into the new one. The SD card is recognized fine; but the CF card doesn't register as being installed. I tried other CF cards with the same results. The CF card does work on a friend's Dell Axim x51v, and on a hub I have for my computer.

When I called Dell, they said there was nothing they could do, as my warranty is no longer in effect. So, am I just lost without the CF card ability on this device?

Check the ROM version, if it's an old one you might be able to fix it with an updated ROM.

Start/settings/system/system information

The newest Dell version is A12, if you have a number less than that it might be fixable.

My ROM version is A12 (06200600). When I check the File Explorer, listed is My Device and SD Card. In my previous device, it also had CF Card as an option. Now, it just doesn't see it.

This problem has been going on since I received this replacement (about 2 years ago) I haven't had any other trouble with the device at all. But, I would really like to use the memory on my CF Card as I have downloaded about $300 worth of ebooks onto it.

Just curious why you didn't send it back when you got it.

Over the 2 years have you ever tried a hard reset?

I suspect if a hard reset doesn't fix it then it is a hardware issue.

I did try a hard reset a few times trying to fix this problem. I also called Dell to try to get it fixed or replaced. Even though the problem is with the device they sent me as a replacement for a broken Axim that was under warranty, they will not replace or repair it. Apparently, because my warranty expired between the time they sent my replacement, and my receiving it (about 3 days), they don't want anything to do with it.

I guess you are right. It probably is a hardware problem, and I just have to continue to live with it.

Thanks

You could try updating to WM6, you never know it might fix it.

The second benefit for you would be that WM6 works with SDHC cards, so you could get a big SDHC and not be so bothered by the lack of CF.

You might also want to take a look at this thread regarding the missing CF card.

I feel so stupid. This morning, I decided to move information from the CF card to my computer, using a USB Multi-Card reader. I couldn't access information on the CF card even with the multi-card reader. So, my son suggested I format the CF card since I didn't want to keep the information any longer. Lo' and Behold! the CF card now works on my Axim again. I didn't know that you had to format these cards just like you do with floppy discs.

Thank you all for your advice. It got me inspired to try new options. I even learned some new features I can explore to enhance my use of the Axim.

:)
