cf farce

Hello all....I am hoping someone can advise on this....Is Gooner still live on here??.

I have an X51 (NOT the X51v) and want to use a 6GB compact flash microdrive card that I have in the CF slot at the back. The problem is that when I plug it in it gives the following pop up: "Unrecognized Card. Enter the name of the device driver for this card. For information see the card manufacturers documentation" There is then a box where I need to type this info. The card does not come with any documentation. It states it is is a GS Magic 6.0 GB ATA/IDE from Magicstor Inc. I have made sure it is FAT32 formatted and my multi reader on the pc sees it fine.

I am currently running the X51 A11 ROM ( from lenny for those in the know) but have tried a couple of others all with the same result.

Whn I go into the menu system on the X51 I cannot find it although the 1GB SD card I have in the other slot does show up. Does anyone know how I can get this microdrive to work? Its not that it isnt seeing the card but that it requires me to tell it which device driver to use....is there a device driver in the registry somewhere that I need to link it to as thats what it seems to be asking for?? Please help as its driving me nuts...lol

Any help would be very gratefully received

Micro drives are quite old technology and were common when PPCs were using 2002/2003 and even then were somewhat unstable.
Many people have found that the drivers have been removed from the newer operating systems for some unknown reason.
It seems that some devices still support them and others don't.
I did a quick google search for Magicstor Drivers but with no luck.
If you search long enough you may find the correct driver, Magicstor is a Chinese company and that can make it harder to find any support.

This page shows you the sort of thing you are looking for, this is not specific to you card, but you never know it may work. Try it at your own risk.

CF cards that have an "IDE only" interface are formated to run in an IPOD or other MP3 player. These types of CF cards are fundamentally incompatible with Pocket PCs, and there is no way to reformat them to run on one. Sounds like you got one of those cards.

Many CF cards that are sold on eBay for a deal may have been harvested from IPOD or MP3 players and are "IDE only" cards. Careful research of these cards beforehand is the best way to avoid buying one of these incompatible CF cards.

Your better off buying a new card. Newegg.com has great prices on CF cards and today's cards are flash based instead of microdrives. This means there are no moving parts so theyre more durable and better on battery life. Plus they work fine on older oses. I use an 8gb with 2003se, and others have confirmed that 16 and 32gb work.
