I was thinking it could be a OS file corruption and would like to reload the OS from scratch. Anyone know how to do this on an AXIM x51v w/ Mobile 5?

thanks

Very possible it is a broken/damaged ribbon connector. That would be a lot more difficult to fix.

The idea you mentioned about reflashing the ROM (AKA, reload the OS) is probably the only thing you can do.

I need to know if you can Activesync or not. Also, if possible, what ROM version you have (If you know).

Since you don't have any programs, I assume you don't need to backup.

This is to reflash the ROM:

1. Download these files
2. Unzip and copy both filesto a BLANK SD (not SDHC) card formatted FAT32
3. Follow these instructions to flash WM5 A12 again (Disregard Step 1 because you do not need to backup)

Reflashed the ROM but did not solve problem. Is it worth having someone look at if for me? Do you know anyone in the Philadelphia, PA area who works on axims and might be able to fix this for less than getting another PDA?

thanks

It is most likely an internal hardware problem. It might be a broken/damaged ribbon connector for graphics.

PPCTechs has a repair for 159 USD. I guess it is cheaper than getting a new x51v (Considering it is discontinued, it is really hard to come by a good x51v)

I had a friend send his x50v to PPCTechs, it is a trustworthy company.

I agree this sounds like a hardware problem. I ran into something similar when I was trying to see if there was a problem with my dock connector. Unfortunatly I broke the bracket that held the ribbon cable for my screen, I managed to take a small piece of folded up paper and jam it in the connector with the ribbon cable and that fixed the problem. Dock connector still won't work though. I have to take the battery out and charge it that way. The soldier joints in the dock its self broke loose some time ago and for a while I was using the car adaptor, but after a while that quit working too, that maybe what (I assume) broke the connector in my Axim. I haven't used it in a while, and haven't even thought about fixing it due to lack of money. I could just buy a 2nd battery for it that way I don't drain the backup battery while waiting for the normal battery to charge.

How ever, I hate to admit it, but I'm going to get the LG Incite soon. I saw it a month or so ago on Cingular...err ATT's site $79 with 2year contract, but since I already am with ATT it comes down to around $30, and if I get the referbished version I saw it once for $10 and I think once even free(although thats all after rebates and what not). Two things I think I'll miss from my x50v, is the IR port and the proccessor speed. The incite I believe is somewhere between 500 and 600mhz. I didn't use the IR port much but it is sort of neat when you have the Universal remote programs :)
