SD Card not installed

Hi, I recently got an axim x51 from ebay.
Today I bought a 2GB SD Card for it, when I insert it into the slot it does not come up anywhere. I had a look at the settings->memory->storage card and it says its not installed

Im not sure where the problem is because the card reader on my PC (which i had till today written off) reads it perfectly. The card also didn't work for my friend's x51v

I have tried the fake server trick and also formatted it to fat32 several times.
I am running WM5

I will be happy if anyone can help me to solve the problem :rolling:

The usual reason for your problem is that the card is not SD but actually SDHC.
SDHC isn't supported by the WM5 version running on the Axims.

You will find a driver in the first post of this thread that will allow you to use SDHC up to 4Gig.

If you upgrade to WM 6 you will get full SDHC support.

If the Card is an SD card then you have a different problem.

Thanks for your reply, i believe it is just an SD card and not SDHC as the logo only says SD

Check the lock switch.
When formatting, set the allocation table to default.
Could it be a counterfeit/bad card from eBay?

Have you tried putting anything data on the card while in the card reader? I had a couple of sd's die out on me, exhibiting the symptoms youve described in your tests so far..sounds like its a dud, but worth a shot.

Thanks guys, Im starting to give up on this card. I bought it from the computer fair, and seeing as i only had $7 with me and didnt want borrow money from friends i decided to get this no brand one. I think ill go to a proper store and get one from a good brand today. At least this way i can return it.

oh yeah, johnhu_2005 and KimChee I tried your suggestions the first thing when i got home with it

Eh, I only buy from Sandisk and Kingston. (Maybe going to try Transcend because of their price)

I have to agree on that one with you two. I went and bought a Sandisk this morning and it worked first time.:)

well that solves my problem
one lesson learnt, dont buy no brand stuff without a receipt

I just brought an Axim X51. I tried teh 1GB and 2GB SD cards, that works.
I installed the SDHC software for a bigger card...and I can use also the 4GB one now.
My question is: What I should do to use a biger card..a 8GB or even a 16GB one?

Although I haven't tried it myself (8-16GiB SDHC cards), the following seems to be what you are looking for:

There are numerous threads here on mobilitysite about custom ROMs (lennys, for instance).
Search for it.
Keep in mind that you need to flash to the correct hardware (X51? X51v?), and that there is a risk of making your device unusable ("bricked"), in which case you'd have to buy a new one (worst case scenario, really).
So - read the threads, howtos and readmes thoroughly and think thrice before attempting it.

I have reflashed my axim numerous times, but the warnings are there for a reason.

The WM6 ROMs for x51 (NOT x51v) are essentially broken, IMHO. So adding SDHC support is probably the only pro you get with a long list of cons. Therefore, I think WM5 in this case is the best choice as of now.
