Axim x51v won't start up

Hello,
I have had some problems with my Axim x51v, and now it is completely dead.
It does not seem to be a charging problem (charging light turns green as it should do).
My laptop does not recognise the Axim when it is fully charged and on the cradle.
I have tried a hard reset but this doesn't do the trick either (at first, sometimes the Dell opening screen would appear and then it would shut down again. Now, it doesn't react to resetting it at all).
Does anyone know what else I could try?
Thanks!

What kind of problems had you been having previously?

leopard, I'm having the same prob. I bought my Axim X51v in Feb. 2006 and started having trouble kind of late last year -- some games weren't working properly, battery draining quickly. Then it progressed to not turning on when I pressed the power button. Did hard resets, nothing. I thought it was because I needed a new battery. I hadn't changed the battery since I got it. Bought a used battery, same problems. Could not changing the battery enough cause the problem? How often should one change batteries on these devices? Is my Axim toast now?

P.S. I didn't even use my Axim that much since I bought it in 2/06.

Please help.

Did you try the Activesync trick?

If that does not work, try getting into the bootloader. My theory is that as long as you can get into the bootloader, your Axim is not bricked.

Steps:
1. Press and hold the Power Button and Wi-Fi button (On the side)

2. While holding the two, poke the reset hole (On the back) ONCE

3. Once a screen pops up, release the Power button and Wi-Fi button

Okay, I inserted my original battery (which I think is bad) and charged it up. It turned on. A warning message comes up: "The battery latch was opened... System put into sleep mode..." And the power light blinks. The unit shuts off and I press the power button again and the battery warning shows again. This has happened time and time again, which is why I thought I needed a new battery. The battery I bought was used, but I didn't realize it and I sent it back.

Oh, and the system reverts back to the default date of 7-01-2005. Any suggestions?

The battery latch open is a common problem.
The little feet on the latch don't quite push the little button.
You can fix that with nail polish, tape, and even remove the switch altogether.

Do a search for Battery latch and you should find some good answers.
I'm mobile so can't really look for you.

The system will revert to that date if the "back up" battery is out of charge.
If you fix the door latch problem then the backup may charge up again, but you may need to replace it or live with the date problem if you switch batteries, there is a work around for that also.
Search for "does your Axim lose the date"

An addition to Box's answer:

Yes, do a search on how to fix the problem. There are a lot of creative ways to fix the problem. Some simple (Using nail polish), some difficult (Removing the switch).

The date loss is something you also have to live with. There are two solutions to fix it.

1. Use MikelSpikel's program. Use it before switching batteries.

2. Bill Todd also made a tutorial on how to open up your Axim and change that little "back up" battery. Looks very dangerous. But it is a surefire way to fix the problem. Here is the tutorial.

I noticed that sometimes a ROM install can make the battery door very sensitive. If you do not want to try some of the extreme method (E.g. removing the switch), I can help you reflash (Like in reinstall) you ROM (Mobile OS, in this case, Windows Mobile)

~Box, you are always mobile!

This is a reply to Box

You mean I have to change the back-up battery inside the Axim in addition to the Li-ion battery?

What I'm going to do is get a new Li-ion battery first, charge it up and see what happens. Is that a good idea?

Catwoman

Thanks you guys for all this info. These forums are a life saver.

In lieu of Box, here is my reply:

You are asking the answer to two unrelated problems. Here the answer the problem about maintaining the time and date:

The battery (actually a button battery) only stores enough energy to keep the date and time. Over time, that little button battery fails to hold a charge.

It is not awfully important. I think switching it would be one hell of a hassle and a danger (You have to open up your Axim). So the easier solution would be to use MikelSpikel's program. Use it before switching batteries.

Now here is the answer to why your Axim will not start up:
The Axim has a system that will force the Axim into sleep mode if the battery latch is opened. This is hard-wired into the Axim and cannot be disabled via software. What Box was saying was that if you fix this problem, your Axim will start up. There are various fix to this problem. So the best way is to use the search function on this forum for the answer.
