X51V upgrade

Folk,

I already permanently bricked one X51V (will not switch on and / or load bios from SDCard).

Anyway, for the new one OK, I SUCCESSFULLY upgraded the OS to WM5 / A17:

DiAd_K_AximX51v_WM5_M17EN.nb0

SO if I understand correctly, I am currently using the old (2003) boot lader.

Should upgrade the bootloader to the WM5 bootloader?

I assume the reason for this is to get better performance in WM5 V 17?

What sort of performance increase should I see (i.e. is it worth the risk?).

I WILL NOT TOUCH MY BOOTLOADER UNTIL I AM 100 PERCENT CERTAIN OF THE BENEFITS AND HOW TO DO IT PROPERLY!

I am pretty darn certain you have a truly bricked Axim on your hands.

Did I not recommend you upgrade the bootloader FIRST?

In your case, do NOT upgrade the bootloader. It may cause the Axim to not be able to boot.

Since I have never upgraded the bootloader SECOND, I'm not sure about the speed increases, etc.

My only hypothesis is that you cannot upgrade to WM6+ with the WM2003SE bootloader. But I'm may be wrong.

So if it ain't broken, don't fix it.

Doesn't an X51V already have the correct Boot Loader?

I thought it was the X50's that need a different loader.

You are right Box. I guess it is theoretically possible to flash the WM2003SE bootloader on a x51v.

So rspall, are you sure you have the WM2003SE bootloader?

Nice avatar and sig, Box.

Pretty sure I have the 2003 bootloader - at least based on the file name I used for uploading the ROM.

Sounds like I SHOULD NOT upgrade the Bootloader!

Thanks for all the help - this time (and next) I am glad I asked before I brick !
