Touchscreen dead?

I've been having an on -off problem for ages when the screen on my X51v "goes funny" and doesn't display colours correctly, it has now decided that the touch screen doesn't work anymore. (so couldn't get into it as couldn't enter pin). I assume it requires a new part? If this is expensive I think the X51v is heading for the bin!

There should be a very small gap between the surface of the touchscreen and the outside edge of the case. Run a business card between to clear out any dust/dirt that could be pressing on the screen in that area and preventing it from working.
As for the display, if you're able to pop open the case, you can carefully pop open the display cable clamp (pops up) and wiggle the cable and clamp it down. that may fix an intermittent connection that is causing the flickering.
Good luck.

If the "screen goes funny..." and "touch screen doesn't work..." are separate problems, another thing that could be causing the latter problem is a screen protector that is touching or underneath the frame around the screen. Happened to me and after replacing the screen protector solved the unresponsive touch screeen.

Concerning the "screen goes funny": I am having that problem and it's getting worse by the day. I will try your suggestion, bigbop but I'm wondering if the internal battery and/or corrosion could have anything to do with it? I live in Asia (read humid) and I've been running with my Axim using a GPS to track my workouts. I've used a ziplock but still moister from condensation gets in and sweat has dropped on the screen a few times. I have an Otterbox for it now, but wondering if it's too late.

Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
