Hi,
I apologize for my english. Well my questions is:
If someone steal my x50v and use it to surf in internet, is it possible, for me, to know that it is in the web?I.e., The x50v leaves some trace in internet of its id or , i do not know, any unique number of identification? And, where can I find, if this exists, in my x50v?
Thanks a lot for your attention
There are plenty of possible technical solutions but they all seem to fall short in one form or another. Potentially it's possible, but nothing decent around.

It would probably be something you have to actually code yourself, a program that would announce if it got online by sending an e-mail or IM or something.
So the short answer is no, it is not possible.

Even if the perfect software did exist, assuming that you had password protected your Axim to protect the data then they would be doing a hard reset anyway and so your software would be gone. Or at least if the software was in BIS it would no longer be in the startup list.
Then there are all the non-technical issues such as finding out where it is.

And if your Axim has *already* been stolen and you're looking for some method of getting it back, you'd already be out of luck:
Even if we pretended that all PDAs did transmit some unique ID, if you haven't already memorized that ID, you'd have no way of knowing which PDA out there was yours.
Potentially, you could use the MAC address, since that more-or-less *is* transmitted by every PDA, but the missing link is some way for you to receive that information: The MAC address is only given to computers to connect to or through. If none of them know to be on the lookout for your stolen PDA's MAC address and report back to you, you never find out.
...and MAC addresses are editable on many devices and operating systems, so there's no way to guarantee that the thief couldn't change it.

The MAC is also locally significant only. The only other device that sees the MAC of my PPC is my router. Even my ISP will never see it.

It has potential for sure. I would guess that you'd need to run modified ROM version to make it survive a hard reset so I don't know what other 'challenges' that would bring. Certainly has potential though.

According to PC World, the PDA version is available in the Road Warrior version. I saw it available on the order page, but I couldn't find any mention of it on the site.
