Axim X51v problem
Just got my Axim X51v, but unfortunately it seems to lock up and freeze up (about 4-5 times a day). I've performed numerous soft resets when this happens and even hard resets but with no improvement. Does anyone have any idea what is going on? Should I exchange the unit? Thanks again for all your help.

what software have you installed on it? most of the lockups on the x50 series could be traced back to some software.

On my x50 I start with a clean slate, install 1 piece of software, take a backup. Check it's stable before installing the next bit. And so on.

If it's unstable go back to the last backup.

The only software I have on it is IGuidance and the Axim Diagnostic Tool. Could it be that WM5 isn't stable enough to handle IGuidance?

could you list all programs installed in your device? May be one of them is the one giving you this problem.

does this problem happens after a hard reset with not software installed?

I think that iguidance is working on an update for wm5. I don't know what it involves but you may have to wait. they say it will be in the next couple of weeks.

All did a hard reset and just installed IGuidance. The same problems occured...I didn't have any problems with freezing and locking up with the X51v. I hope IGuidance can fix this. I guess I'm up a creek without a paddle b/c buyGPSnow.com does not take returns of software....=(

It's going to be a while before software is completely compatible with WM5.0. I noticed PocketBreeze will not update when I check-off a completed task until I force the Today Screen to reload. I also use FlexWallet 2005 and not all the options are available as were with WM2003. Just the price we pay for being early adopters.

It seems I have the problem nailed down to inserted SD card. I never had the switching on problem until I inserted my SD card and left it in the X51v. From then on I started to get the problem. Today I took out the SD card and no problem at all.

Changes I made before getting the problem for the first time (plus the white screen problem):

-installed SD card (FAt 16 / 8kb clustersize)
- installed 3 lingvosoft dictionaries
- installed SPB GRPS monitor
- installed original 1100 mAh Battery (before I had the Mugen 1800mAh)

Maybe it would help if all affected would try to reproduce changes made to their system before the problem appeared.

Hi rbg08

If you will download the latest PocketBreeze version from the URL I included below this will fix this issue for you

http://www.sbsh.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=6140

This issue is simply something that we had to fix with PocketBreeze for the WM5 version which we got working with the latest version that I posted above.

Let me know if this helps

I noticed the same thing

I had the exact same experience. No problems with X51v until I installed an SD card and left it in. I've taken it out now and I suspect that the problem will not reoccur.

Anyone have any idea why this would be happening? There are going to be times I want to leave an SD card in the PDA.

I had the same issue with the SD card. Also, sometimes I cannot see my programs that were installed on the card. However, I just have to wiggle a little the SD card inside the slot (or take it out and put it back in) and it works.
I took out the fake CF card and took a look inside. It seems that the connectors for the SD card are placed on a thin metal band that curves outwards from the pressure. Maybe the contacts are not as good as they should be. I am trying to think of something that I can insert there that can keep the contacts pressed on the SD card. It's a pitty that such a nice products has this stupid shortcomings.

I also got an x51v about a week ago and it had these two problems:
1. It would not turn on after sitting idle for a while. I especially
noticed this when I had an alarm set (via Chronos) and it would not
go off in the morning to wake me up.
2. While it is in that "would not turn on" state, if I seat it on the
cradle, it gets the "white screen of death".

I have a 1Gb SD card, Skype and Chronos installed.

I upgraded to ROM version A04 yesterday. The upgrade went
smoothly and I haven't had any problems since.
The unit wakes up a lot faster when you switch it on.
Going from one app to another seems zippier too.
I strongly recommend upgrading to A04 if you have an X51v with
an older ROM version. The downloaded file is called R112544.EXE.
I am using an X51v with 1Gb SD card.
