Review: BlackBerry PlayBook

Posted by CR H. on May 01, 2011 | 27 Comments

It’s pretty crazy to think that only a little over one year ago Apple introduced the iPad. Previous attempts at tablet computing by numerous companies had been complete failures. But Apple seemed to “get it” with the iPad and took the consumer electronics industry by storm, almost as they had done with the iPhone in 2007. Just as Google responded to the iPhone with Android and more recently Honeycomb on the Motorola...

Posted by Matt P. on Apr 06, 2011 | 7 Comments

After a couple retail sites put the Wi-Fi only Galaxy Tab up for pre-order, Samsung decided to let the cat out of the bag. The Tab will be available throughout the US on April 10th and will have a price tag of $350 attached to it. It’s packing the same 7-inch 1024 x 600 display, front and rear-facing camera and still running Android 2.2. Also, it seems it will only be available with a white back for right now....

Intel leaks possible MacBook Pro refresh

Posted by Matt P. on Feb 16, 2011 | 3 Comments

There’s been a lot of talk about a refresh to the Apple MacBook Pro lineup for a little bit, and it seems as if Intel let one model slip out in a new Intel ad. The ad shows us what looks to be a black, thinner MacBook Pro sans webcam. Of course, this could just be another laptop, but this Intel has a history of being loose lipped on leaking new MacBook’s in ads. Source: 9t05Mac AKPC_IDS += "40275,"; Read More →

Motorola Xoom launching on February 17th?

Posted by Matt P. on Jan 24, 2011 | 4 Comments

According to an alleged internal slide, Best Buy will be launching the Motorola’s Xoom tablet on February 17th with a price tag of $699.99. Now, this is in the same ball park, price wise as Apple’s 64GB iPad. It’s priced reasonably for what this 10.1-inch 1280 x 800-pixel tablet is packing compared to the iPad. Read on after the break to see an alleged screenshot of Best Buy’s Employee Toolkit,...

Win 7 10” Tablet (from PandaWill) review

Posted by Rich Bilancia on Nov 16, 2010 | 3 Comments

One of the best kept secrets about Windows is that it has natively supported a touch interface for about 8 years.  The very first version of the Windows Tablet PC was announced in November of 2002.  Now, eight years later, the original promise may about to be realized. Since January of 2003, I’ve been using the Tablet PC platform as my exclusive traveling Windows PC device.  The Tablet PCs that I’ve...

ACCESS Offers Mobile eMagazine Service and Viewer

Posted by Marilyn Torres on Oct 27, 2010 | 6 Comments

A large number of the mobile magazine readers available are just that, readers. Articles are as dynamic as their embedded images. I read movie reviews on my Android phone through Greed, watch trailers and buy movie tickets through Fandango, and find the nearest movie theaters and restaurants through Google Maps. At this point, I’d love to consolidate all those apps to save as much of my smartphone’s storage...

Rather than wait for me to complete a full review of the Win 7 10” Tablet from PandaWill and after using the device over the weekend, I have decided to add this “first look” posting to share my initial impressions. My biggest disappointment with the Win 7 10” Tablet is… AKPC_IDS += "39679,"; Read More →

Posted by Rich Bilancia on Oct 23, 2010 | 5 Comments

On Thursday, October 21st, the same day that the release and specifications of the HP Slate 500 were officially confirmed by HP, DHL delivered to me a 10” capacitive touch tablet running Windows 7.  This tablet was provided by China-based PandaWill.com.  This posting is primarily my unboxing report of the device, but because of the similarity of the device with the HP Slate 500 I am including a table comparing...

Apparently Microsoft has more surprises up Steve Ballmer’s voluminous sleeves for this big event in NYC on October 11th. Not only will they be premiering Windows Phone 7, announcing the AT&T WP7 lineup AND the T-Mobile WP7 lineup…but Neowin is reporting that they will be finally letting us know how they intend to answer Apple’s iPad. Neowin has it from a reliable source that even through the focus is on Windows...

iPad Dethroning the DVD Player, CNBC Still CNBC

Posted by Zealot on Oct 05, 2010 | 21 Comments

A very interesting but somewhat ludicrous Fast Money column today shows that even though CNBC’s former Silicon Valley bureau chief (and infamous Apple fanboi and mouthpiece), Jim Goldman, left the station in July to work in PR, his spirit lives on, at least in terms of the station’s fawning worship of all things Apple. The core of the column is factual and speaks for itself. The iPad has out done the DVD player to...

In addition it will be available at Carphone Warehouse, though no word yet on if those models will be unlocked or no. When the Dell Streak was first sold at Carphone Warehouse, it was still locked to O2 even iuf you bought it without contract, so read the fine print. Price? Well Sammie doesn’t mention it in the...

The Tablet/iPad: Crock Pot Computing

Posted by Zealot on Sep 28, 2010 | 10 Comments

Do you remember the Crock Pot? When I was a kid, it was THE hot new kitchen appliance available in stylish Avocado or Terra Cotta enamel. Everyone wanted one, people actually bought several. It was an enormous Christmas gift, hundreds of thousands of couples got them as wedding presents. A Pot you plug in, with a timer…how brilliant. It spawned a whole culinary movement, “Slo-cooking”, and thousands of books of...

The Next iPad? Choose Your Rumor

Posted by Zealot on Sep 26, 2010 | 3 Comments

I don’t know why I am surprised that for all the rabid speculation that led up the the debut of the current iPad, the speculation about the second generation iPad is even more wild…mega-rabid even. Considering what a big hit the first version of the iPad has been, it stands to reason that people would want to see how Apple will try to top themselves this time. In fact there have been so many rumors, none of them really...

FileMaker Go Gets Major Update

Posted by Zealot on Sep 22, 2010 | 2 Comments

I have gone down on record already as being a big fan of FileMaker, ever since I first used their software on a Mac+ a few centuries ago. Very few companies have been able to take a program type as dry but essential as database management and make it so intuitive and pleasant to use. When FileMaker released Bento, their personal database creation tool for the iPad, I was eager to be among the first to review it and I...

HTML5 vs Flash: The Movie

Posted by Zealot on Sep 22, 2010 | 9 Comments

Steve Jobs has three main reasons (well, at least three main reasons he talks about) for preferring HTML5 over Flash and therefore banishing Flash from his iOS devices. The first is that Flash creates security problems…and OK, he does have a point there and Adobe has been working hard to try to close all the various exploits and security holes found in Flash but there is a lot of work still to do. The second is that...
