Palm Pre 2 is officially announced!

Posted by Dan H. on Oct 19, 2010 | 2 Comments

The Palm Pre 2 is now official! As the name suggests, it’s more of an update to the Pre Plus, rather than a whole new device. In terms of external hardware changes, it still retains the same vertical QWERTY slider form factor. The display is the same 3.1-inch, 320 x 480 resolution display, but instead of the older plastic display, it’s been swapped out with a flatter, tougher, glass display. The bezel around...

What’s With All The Padding? Wake up, Palm!

Posted by Zealot on Jul 21, 2010 | 10 Comments

If you can remember all the way back to the dim and distant pre-iPad era, you will recall there was a great deal of speculation as to what Apple was going to call their upcoming “giant iPod” device. The initial frontrunner was the iTablet, which was surpassed by the iSlate when some Apple that term while trying to describe what was to come. When the name “iPad” was finally announced, it was not very well received....

Palm Dropping webOS Dev Fees

Posted by Zealot on Jun 30, 2010 | 3 Comments

Well, it looks like HP is serious about making a run at the mobile marketshare it lost long ago, and they are going to use webOS to do it. In very welcome news today, we are hearing from many different developers that an email went out from Palm saying that they were not only dropping the $50 fee for registering an application on Palm’s webOS App Catalog, but REFUNDING the money of everyone who had already paid, from...

Palm/HP Deal Closes, Rubinstein’s Fate Announced

Posted by Zealot on Jun 28, 2010 | 6 Comments

It has been quite a couple of years for Palm, that grand old man of handheld technology. The Pilot glory days long forgotten, they were written off as dead for ages. Then iPod creator Jon Rubinstein came over from Apple, they jettisoned the Treo line and the PalmOS to create webOS and the Palm Pre which took the tech world by storm…at least for a couple weeks. For a little while everyone in the tech world seemed convinced...

Review: Palm Pixi Plus On AT&T

Posted by Stephen Borders on Jun 16, 2010 | 5 Comments

On June 6th AT&T release the Palm Pixi Plus. The second WebOS device on the carrier and while certainly not a new device it is the first WebOs device I have had the opportunity to use and review. After two weeks of use I must say I understand why some find WebOS to be a under rated system. Palm certainly has come a long way since the Treo 600 I used 5 or 6 years ago. The real question is though, how does it stand...

Posted by Stephen Borders on Jun 10, 2010 | 1 Comment

Well this has to be a record. It has been on sale for less than a week and the price has already dropped from $49 on contract to Free on contract. I read this last night on Engadget and had to check it out for myself. But there it is. I have had this Phone for review for a little over a week and its not a bad device. I should have a review up soon. AKPC_IDS += "37206,"; Read More →

So what I do think so far? Click past the break and see. AKPC_IDS += "37060,"; Read More →

HP Laptops: Dependable or Disposable?

Posted by Adam Wyss on May 23, 2010 | 19 Comments

It’s a simple question, is an HP laptop something you should invest in, or something to get you by until you can purchase a real computer?  I would love to take a look at this issue today because I feel based on my personal experience that this is an issue that needs to be brought to the public’s attention. HP Buys Palm

Posted by Diego Samuilov on Apr 29, 2010 | 6 Comments

After all the names thrown out for potential buyers of Palm Inc. it was announced that HP would be the one to actually complete the purchase. Hewlett Packard confirmed late last night that they will be purchasing Palm, Inc. for about $1 billion in cash. The purchase completes at $5.70 per share, which is more than 20% higher than Palm’s price per share previous to the announcement. Palm, Inc. had about 80% of the...

Why should HTC buy Palm?

Posted by Gil Bouhnick on Apr 14, 2010 | 3 Comments

Well, firstly, because we all want Palm to stick with us some more. Secondly, because it makes sense. You see, HTC may prove to the world it is capable of developing and executing when it comes to cutting edge design, great specs and modern mobile technology. but in my opinion, HTC’s work lacks a good innovation; in most cases, the company’s so called "innovation" is more about taking good ideas...

At MWC 2010, Palm said they would bring webOS to AT&T. Well, Palm just announced that they will be releasing an AT&T version of the Pre Plus and the Pixi Plus! We reviewed the Verizon version and the AT&T versions seems to be almost exactly the same. The Pre Plus still has 16GB of internal storage, Wi-Fi, 3G, 3.1″ 320 x 480 res capacitive display, 3MP camera, and webOS 1.4. Pixi Plus appears to be exactly...

Palm Pre Headed to AT&T Next

Posted by Chris Leckness on Feb 12, 2010 | 9 Comments

The Sprint exclusive on the Pre has come and gone. Verizon has it now in the form of the Pre plus and now Information Week is reporting that the Pre is headed to AT&T. Palm’s stock rose Thursday morning when Citi called for the AT&T to get the Pre in May. The Pre recently launched, along with its sister device the Pixi, on the Verizon network two weeks ago and results haven’t been that great. Citi...

Palm Pre Plus, Palm Pixi Plus — Review

Posted by Dan H. on Jan 31, 2010 | 14 Comments

Last year, Palm took CES 2009 by storm introducing the Palm Pre and webOS. In November 2009, Palm introduced the Palm Pixi, a smaller, slightly less powerful brother to the Pre. Both were available on Sprint as their exclusive carrier. A year later at CES 2010, Palm introduced the Palm Pre Plus and the Palm Pixi Plus. Both devices brought some improvements and changes. Palm Pre Plus doubled the RAM (256MB – 512MB)...

Palm Pre Plus, Palm Pixi Plus: First impressions

Posted by Dan H. on Jan 28, 2010 | 7 Comments

I got the Palm Pre Plus and the Palm Pixi Plus from Verizon a couple days ago, and I’m here to share my first impressions. Starting with the Pre Plus, first thing I have to say is the build quality is a lot better. I had quite a few problems with the Sprint Palm Pre, and it’s all fixed now on the Pre Plus. Slider is solid, no creaks, everything is solid. I like the new front without the button, looks a lot...

Palm Pre Plus, Palm Pixi Plus, webOS 1.4 announced!

Posted by Dan H. on Jan 07, 2010 | 5 Comments

Palm announced quite a bit of interesting stuff at their press event today at CES. Starting with the big stuff…. That is the much rumored Palm Pre Plus. It has some substantial improvements. 16GB internal memory (the original Pre was 8GB), 512MB RAM (original Pre was 256MB), it removes the center button in favor for the Pixi’s clean look with just a touch strip. And also it comes standard with the Touchstone...

Verizon Bits – We can handle the iPhone and the Palm Pre Plus

Posted by Chris Leckness on Dec 18, 2009 | 12 Comments

I’ll skip over the handling the iPhone part and get to the part about the Palm Pre. I’m going to file the Palm Pre Plus into the “rumor” file for now. There is no doubt that Palm has something to show us at CES 2010 since I got an invitation to a private event, but what is it. Well, there were stories posted this week that Verizon employees were getting Palm WebOS training, so we can add two and two together,...
