I didn’t expect each of the imported posts to create tweets to the account. I just imported iPhoneMVP into Mobilitysite and this caused this to occur. Fortunately, Twitter prevents spam by throttling the amount of tweets sent per hour. I really hope the other posts that were imported do not continue after the time is up. I tried to tweet this to let everyone know what was happening and how sorry I am about this, but It’s locked for the hour.

Once again, I am truly sorry for this and hope it didn’t cause too much trouble in anyone’s life. Thanks for following us in the 1st place and I will do all I can to ensure that something like this does not happen again.

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving and scored big on Black Friday. I had a great time off myself. I was able to knock out a few projects on the site. It wasn’t uneventful though, I also had some database issues late Saturday night/ Sunday morning that gave me fits. That’s taken care of and I have brought things back up to speed. I just wanted to share this morning

1st off the changes to the site layout. Nothing major, just some layout changes. I added some additional content to our sidebar. I also added a bar above the content to allow you to search easier for news, RSS, and forums for the major mobile OS platforms. I added some ways to allow users to share our news/commentary with Twitter and Facebook. Make sure to use those if you will. They help us a lot!

iPhoneMVP and GotZune’s content will be merged in with Mobilitysite’s content this week. I am working on providing RSS feeds of various flavors to help readers customize what they want to see in their reader. I don’t think this merge will affect many. We already post iPhone and Zune stuff here anyhow. Bringing all the sites under the same roof makes sense and makes my life easier too. Thanks for your support on this.

That’s about it for now, but standby… more to come soon.

Happy Thanksgiving to our all readers on behalf of the staff here at Mobilitysite. Without you guys, this site would not be what it was back in the Aximsite days and it definitely would not be what it is today, almost 7 years later. This ride all started out on Aximsite in December 2002, then I created Mobilitysite in April of 2005. Slowly but surely, Aximsite faded into Mobilitysite and here we are 7 years later, still kicking. For this opportunity, I am truly thankful. I am sure I speak on behalf of all the contributors to Mobilitysite when I say, THANK YOU, the readers!

Most importantly, I want to thank my family for putting up with this ridiculous obsession that I have for mobile tech and building sites that end in the word site. My wife has been all too tolerable to all this over the years and my kids have been forgiving as well. As they get older, I am neglecting the site more and more in attempts to spend more time with them. Thanks Bonnie, Brittney, and Brett!

Still important… From the bottom of my heart, I want to thank all the volunteers that assist me here at Mobilitysite. You guys are the glue that keeps this all together. I know and you know that all these readers aren’t here to hear me blab about my obsessions. Thanks guys!

It would also be a shame to leave out the sponsors and the companies that have supported us over all these years. Cases.com, Dell, HP to an extent, HTC, Wagged, Edelman, MWW, AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, and more! I am sure I have left out many great supporters too, sorry. Thanks folks!

Lastly, I personally want to thank Bill Gates and Steve Jobs too! Thanks for heading up the companies that make the technology that a lot of our desires and passions revolve around!

What are all of you thankful for?

Merging
In other news, I am going to go forward with merging iPhoneMVP and GotZune into Mobilitysite. I will provide some filtering of content as well as separate RSS feeds. I won’t do this until I have it set up right. Really though, Zune news is slow unless it’s launch time and iPhone News is everywhere already. What we’ll have for iPhone is mostly reviews, tutorials, and commentary.

Big Contest Coming Soon!
Our anniversary (I am going to quit calling it a Birthday) is coming soon. So far we have 5 Pantech Matrix Pro Smartphones and an HTC Snap to give away. More to come…

Droid and HD2
Coverage of our own soon. These both should be sitting in my office now for when I get off work.

Ok, don’t forget to check out this finely crafted message after the break…

Seems some are having speaker problems with the new Droid phone in which a reboot seems to fix it for a while. Here is what Engadget has to say:

It’s no reason to panic just yet, but apparently a good amount of people are having trouble with the external speaker on their Motorola Droid cutting out for no reason. It seems to be software-related, and sometimes a reboot fixes it temporarily, but it’s a scary problem for people relying on the handset as an alarm clock (or, you know, to receive calls), since you never know when it will strike next. For its part it seems that Motorola is replacing handsets that have the issue, though that’s no guarantee of escape from the clutches of silence. Let’s hope Motorola updates us with a software patch or some other serious solution soon — people need to hear that robotic "Droooiiid" alert sound — and meanwhile let us know if you’ve been seeing a similar issue.

Engadget is taking a poll so if you are having issues head on over and vote

On occasion, I am going to spam you guys with a link filled post about the iPhone stuff I have been doing. Like I said before, I am now using the iPhone and I don’t want to fill Mobilitysite with all the “minor” stuff about the iPhone daily. We will continue to post things related to iPhone here, but not a ton. I chose to do that on a separate site for the iPhone. While I am using the iPhone 3GS 32GB, I am still using and evaluating other devices. I still love WinMo and I am giving some of the Nokia smartphones a more fair shake now. I am also becoming quite interested in Android. Oh, yeah, Palm WebOS too… Even though I haven’t had much hands on with the OS.

Anyhow, here is a wrap up of what’s going on in iPhone land over at iPhoneMVP

The 1st item is one that many of you might want to check out and participate in. It affects everyone that is interested in hacking their phone with cooked ROMs or jailbreaking/unlocking the iPhone. I had been asked by a few people already what my views about jailbreaking and unlocking the iPhone were, so I decided to write a good old wall of text on the subject. What make this review interesting, is Paul is not a fan of Windows Mobile and has stated numerous times he thinks the iPhone is the best smartphone on the market. He also makes some revealing statements as regards the reasoning for the default today screen, which makes one think Microsoft is working toward tighter integration between its platforms.

Howdy folks, I am here with a rare request. I know that we have readers carrying all sorts of devices, so I am reaching out to our iPhone readers. By the way, off the subject, I added icons for the major smartphone operating systems in the header of the site to make finding news on a particular os easier. Anyhow, back to the request, I need iPhone users that once used Windows Mobile or PPC

So, if you fit this build, please contact me or leave a comment here. Here is the question for those users.

Why did you get the iPhone and leave Windows Mobile behind.

Please, let’s not turn this into a debate. Keep on point. If you would prefer, shoot me a message via our contact form or Chris@_______. Thanks. This info is for an article I am writing in coordination with a letter to Microsoft.

Why did I leave Windows Mobile behind?
I didn’t really. It’s just her and I haven’t gotten along lately and we’re taking a break. You know, “if you love someone, set them free. If they come back they’re yours; if they don’t they never were.” Yep, that’s what I am doing. I am dissatisfied with Microsoft’s speed in catching back up in the mobile space and finally decided to use a device I appreciate regardless of what others think about it. I just hope she comes back someday.

Thanks. Please, iPhone users, give me input. This story will run on here and iPhoneMVP.com.

Yesterday, I shared some link love to my iPhone blog at iPhone.Mobilitysite.com, but sometime during the day, I decided it needed it’s own domain. I chose iPhoneMVP.

Back when the iPhone first came out, I stood in line in the rain and bought the original iPhone. I still have that one today. I used it for a couple weeks and went back to Windows Mobile. There were a couple small things that I didn’t like about it, but most of those have been fixed over time. Recently, I decided to try the iPhone 3GS. I bought it and love it. I am still going to support Windows Mobile and other devices on my lead site, Mobilitysite.com, but I am going to share iPhone love here as well.

Back in 2007, I started a blog called CooliPhoneblog.com where I republished iPhone articles we put on Mobilitysite, but I eventually shut that down and forwarded it to Mobilitysite. About 4-5 months ago, I created another iPhone blog at iPhone.Mobilitysite.com and it ran there until I decided to get a dedicated iPhone domain again. I wanted something short and sweet and CooliPhoneblog.com wasn’t the right choice. I spent about a week trying to come up with something I liked that was available and finally decided on this one, iPhoneMVP.com.

It’s not much, but it’s mine. Check it out if you are a closet iPhone user. Don’t worry, I won’t tell others.

Just wanted to let everyone know that Tabletsite is up and running now. This is a site that will cover all types of “tablets”, not just Tablet PC. What is a tablet? Hell, I really don’t know, but I do my best to describe what I believe a tablet is here. I 1st started Tabletsite back in August 2003 but took it offline after a few months. Now, the word “tablet” seems to be taking on other forms rather than just being associated with Tablet PC so myself and Chuong decided to see what we could do in this new, more open world surrounding tablets.

The iPhone Blog has been online since 2007, but it was rarely updated. It started out as Cooliphoneblog.com, but then I decided to associate the blog with Mobilitysite. The domain might change again soon though. I created iPhone.Mobilitysite.com back in May 2009 to give our guys a place to share iPhone tips and reviews. Now that I have an iPhone, I am more interested personally. To kick off the new life of this blog, I decided to give a away a couple iTunes gift cards over there. Head over and check it out. Here are some good links from yesterday:

It’s been a very busy last few weeks around here for me. I have been throwing in massive hours to improve my little online home, including reopening a property and getting involved in another. I have had more time on my hands lately to do some much needed house cleaning.

The 1st item of note is the layout of all my sites. Other than Aximsite’s landing page, all my sites have been converted to a new layout that all match and have a familiar logo branding. If you are on one of my sites, you will know it now. My personal blog all the way to Mobilitysite, a uniform look. I’ve put a lot of effort into this, but it might all change when Jelsoft releases Vbulletin 4.0, a complete revamp of the forum software I’ve been using since 2002. Some of the suggestions owners have been making for 4-5 years might finally be answered in this upcoming release.

Next on the list is Tabletsite. I have decided, with the help of Chuong Nguyen and a couple Mobilitysite guys, to reopen this site. Back in 2003/4, I had Tabletsite online, but I was not overall impressed with Tablet PC at the time and my interest dwindled. Now that the tablet world is opening up and there are rumors that Apple and others are working on tablet style computers, it’s a hot topic and one that our collective wants to cover. You might recognize Chuong’s name since he is one of the hard working bloggers over at Pocketnow, he will be running the show over at Tabletsite,

Finally, it should be no surprise that I got an iPhone 3GS by now. What might be a surprise to some is that we have an iPhone Blog at Mobilitysite too. It’s been around for a few months in fact. Since I wasn’t using an iPhone, I rarely post to the blog myself, but others have splattered some iPhone love into it before I decided to make a little presence over there. Look out for a long series of software reviews to kick off soon over there. I do like iPhone, but I am not sure how I will feel when the “new” wears off. I still support and love WinMo, but her and I need some time apart to learn to appreciate each other.

Seriously though, I thought it would be great to tell new readers where Mobilitysite came from. I was digging through some old images and layouts recently as I was doing some housekeeping on my data drives and it was bringing back some serious memories. I really love where we’ve been and where we are going. So without delay, here we go. Warning, this might be longer than the attention span of many, but it should be a good read for those that don’t know all this already. I figure that 25% of our readers are new to Mobilitysite and have no idea where we came from, I think that 50% of our readers are Aximsite holdovers, 20% are search engine readers, and the other 5% are me and my mom.

From about 1996-1998, I messed around with Web Design as a hobby. I toyed around with a few sites mostly for fun. I created Lecktronix.com and Planetfreebie.com and really just messed around. Lecktronix is still online in almost the same form I left it in back in 1999. I also repurchased Planetfreebie because of it’s sentimental value to me too. Anyhow, I was doing some online handicapping for football when I decided to go back to college at night. I quit working on the handicapping site and went to work on a Business Administration degree. (which I am 1 class away from still, 7 years later)

When I decided to get back to school, I figured I needed something a little more powerful than my Palm PDA, so I went out and bought a Casio BE-300. I returned it 2 days later, I wasn’t impressed. This was about the time the Dell Axim X5 was launched. It was December 2002 when I ordered my Dell Axim X5. I don’t know how many remember this launch, but it was horrible. The device was priced so well, that Dell was overloaded with demand for the X5. People were having to wait weeks to get theirs. It’s upset a lot, but those that stuck with it were happy with their low priced, powerhouse. During the wait, I decided to create a website to share my experiences with the Dell Axim… Enter Aximsite.com. Aximsite blew up. In the 1st month online, we got 10k forum members and grew so fast that I almost couldn’t afford to pay to keep it online. If not for some advertisers stepping up, I would have had to shut down.

The other day a combination of Judie’s Gear Diary post announcing her blog as being in the Kindle Blogs program and Matt Miller’s post at The Mobile Gadgeteer telling how to get in, I decided to take time out to get Mobilitysite in there. I previously hadn’t considered it, but then I decided “Why Not?”. It was fairly simple to put in place. It uses the standard RSS feed to get the info into the store, so if this goes well, I will create a new feed that does not have “extras” in it to make the feed cleaner.

I don’t own a Kindle personally. I don’t read enough books to warrant the cost to be honest. What I do read, I can read on my desktop, laptop, netbook, or phone. I am impressed at what Amazon has done with the Kindle, it’s just not for me. I am waiting on some screenshots and critique of how Mobilitysite looks on the Kindle.

Sorry for the cost. It was not set by me. In fact, I don’t even know if I get any royalties and I really don’t care. If I could give it free, I would.
