Ilium Software, maker of software for both Windows and the PPC has crafted a new version of their popular program eWallet. Being a user of eWallet 6.x for a good six months I was interested to see what an upgrade to this handy utility might look like. Here’s what I found out about this neat application.
For a long time I have kept all of my personal information (passwords, account numbers and other information)...

A while back Google introduced Sync for iPhone and Windows Mobile. It worked by using the MS Exchange protocol, so you could sync your contacts and calendar without any extra software.
Recently they updated it, now to include email support. So I decided to give it a try. I never tried the original, so this is my first time using it. My thoughts after the break…

Five years ago, in January of 2004, I wrote a review of Pocket Map Navigator, R3, for Aximsite.com. That review can still be found at MobilitySite.com, if you are interested. I liked the software and loved the interface it presented, but had the one criticism that it used TeleAtlas Maps, which were, in my area, less accurate than other databases. Right after that review, Space Machine disappeared from the PDA arena entirely...

Introduction:
A few days ago, SPB released a new update to version 3.5 of Mobile Shell. For those who aren’t familiar, Mobile shell is a complete overhaul of your phone’s interface. Generally, it tries to make your phone look better, be more usable and more “touch friendly”. With Mobile Shell Installed, you will rarely see your Windows Mobile phone’s today screen or start menu. Rather, most of your...

Like many of you, there has been an AvantGo sized hole in my content viewing for several weeks now. Over the course of many years and many mobile devices, AvantGo was the application I depended upon to bring me my fix of news off the internet, but as of the end of this last summer, AvantGo is gone. It was more then an RSS service, it was a porthole into the vast amount of information available on the net even back when...

Well, the Zune software version designed to support the new Zune HD and expanded marketplace is finally available from the Zune website as well as via Upgrade within the software. After messing about with it for the morning I have some first impressions.
First and foremost, the look and feel recently emulated by iTunes 9 has stayed largely the same. There have been a few GUI changes to bring it more inline with the...

One of the features I love best of my Windows Mobile smartphone is that there is no shortage of different free apps, even though they’re not neatly consolidated into an app store. Since I avidly tweet almost everyday, I have no problem with leaving Tiny Twitter, ceTwit, and Twikini behind for a Twitter client that enables me to smoothly scroll, tweet, delete, follow, unfollow, et cetera, through my Twitter timeline....

A few days ago, RIM released a plugin for the BlackBerry that adds enhanced support for Gmail accounts, including conversation style viewing, stars, and labels.
I’ve taken the time to play with it, and in all honesty, I do not like it at all. The way I use my Berry, its more of an inconvenience and space waster. Others, however will find it useful.
The Good:
Adds support for labels and stars
Easy to use
The Bad:
Still...

Even though I gave Viigo a quick install-n-try back in April on my AT&T Tilt running WinMo 6.1, I decided to run the gamut of possibilities with this combination RSS reader, podcast, flight info, and news aggregator again but not with improved results.
First, I visited the http://getviigo.com site to download the app but was surprised to find that SkyFire was not triggered to download the application at all. I decided...

Google has released a new version of Google Maps and the app is as lightning quick as ever with some major improvements. The biggest addition is Layers.
There are several new functions or layers that include Wikipedia, Transit, and Traffic. If I’m visiting a new city and turn on Wikipedia, any little squares that appear on the map mean condensed Wikipedia articles are available about the immediate area. When I tap a...

Finally, after a speedy install, I have NetFront v3.5 on my Tilt! Not that I had any issues with the install whatsoever, although the size of the CAB had me worried.
While there’s no tabbed browsing in NetFront, this app has nearly the most settings of any mobile browser aside from the new Opera Mobile. New windows are available and a user can flip back and forth between windows through a separate “Window” sub-menu....

A small upgrade has been made by the SkyFire team to their 1.0 release of the mobile browser this week. The most significant improvement of the browser, now at version 1.0.0.12113 for Windows Mobile touch and non-touch handsets with a newer version for our Symbian kindred, is a reduced memory footprint. For those of us with handsets that are showing their age via lack of capacity, the SkyFire team has streamlined their...

A big thank you to @gigajosh for the recommendation on NetFront mobile browser from Access Company because it’s how I found the Iris mobile browser by Torch Mobile. While I will review NetFront before the end of its beta phase, but for now, I’ll dive into Iris.
For an installation file larger than SkyFire 1.0, clocking in at 3.35 MB versus SkyFire’s 679 KB, Iris v1.1.8 was a quick install on my AT&T Tilt running...

I’ve had enough of iPhone this and iPhone that. Let’s talk cool apps for your BlackBerry, shall we? Gear Diary reported that TuneWiki is available for the BlackBerry. What is TuneWiki? It’s a website that plays music of your choice and displays lyrics. It’s a community forum. It displays maps that show what other users are listening to. It may still be...

Mozilla’s Firefox is the only browser I use at home. Stable, tabbed browsing enabled, and rich with add-on options, so I was expecting similar functionality and stability from Fennec on my WinMo 6.1 handset. After the initial install from a 9.09 MB file, the browser took a minute or two longer to load the first time, but then the Fennec start page loaded fast enough. This is the largest installation file yet, compared...

One of the first things i do with a mobile browser after download and installation, is run it through a site gauntlet, that is, a mix of sites with oodles of embedded media. The first browser to push daises during this test was Pocket IE, which almost goes without saying. Detected as a mobile browser by most sites, limited settings, and non-existent Flash or Javascript support, Microsoft’s browser has long been...

I’ve been exploring creative ways to use the camera on my Windows Mobile device to boost my productivity. Qipit provides a way to copy and email or fax documents to anyone at any time from any web enabled mobile device.
Qipit works from any mobile device that has a web browser and is not limited to windows mobile handhelds, iphones or any other mobile device. Qipit is almost like having a scanner...

Don’t you often find yourself going back and forth, copying things from two or more sources to paste them into one? My work database is separate from my contacts database, so I have to copy the name, then paste it into my contacts database, then copy the address, then the zip, and phone numbers. It’s time consuming and tedious. But I found a cool, free software that will change all that!

I recently received a Blackberry 8350i for work, and like Windows Mobile, the built in Contact Manager is inadequate. There are separate modules for each function. If you want to make an appointment you must open the calendar. To view contacts you must open contacts. These two suites I am reviewing combine all the functions into one program. ...

I’ve had a Windows Mobile device since 2000. But recently my work gave me a Blackberry 8350i to replace my aging Nextel phone. I had the opportunity to reduce my load from two devices to one. I had to make a lot of changes in order to accomplish my goals of continuing to carry my important business information and integrating the Blackberry into my business routine. One big switch I made...
