E-Readers declared “hot” by the Wall Street Journal

In this morning’s Wall Street Journal, there is an extensive discussion and review of nine different e-Readers. It’s a good article that addresses both the popularity of the devices as well as their limitations and potential drawbacks. The article starts with:

“Books are having their iPod moment this holiday season. But buyer beware: It could also turn out to be an eight-track moment.”

I’m still looking for a way to get eight-track music that I bought in the 70s converted to MP3. I certainly don’t want to have to do something similar with e-books that I buy! That’s the primary reason that I read my e-books on my Tablet PC.

The list of the e-Readers compared in the article includes:

LibreDigital Inc., a distributor of e-books for publishers, says the overwhelming majority of e-book buyers are women who read e-books on an ordinary computer screen, mostly between 4 p.m. and 11 p.m. A growing number of readers are also perusing books on cellphones.”

Opera 10 beta updated

Opera 10 Beta has been upgraded to Beta 2 and after downloading it to the Tilt2 web pages seem a little faster, scrolling is smoother and the slow focusing problem seems to have gone away. So if you are aching to try something different hit the link to download or go to m.opera.com/mobile from your current browser to download it directly. Also though not recommended for WM phones Opera Mini 5 beta 2 has been released as well. so if you have a BlackBerry or other mobile phone you can go to m.opera.com/next from your mobile device for that download

Cyber Monday According to AT&T

AT&T’s got a couple of Cyber Monday deals, for just one penny. Of course, you’ll have to sign the obligatory two year contract, but still, if you’re in the market for a new phone, or your contract has recently expired, it may be a good opportunity.

On the other hand, some of you might want to wait and save that 2 year renewal for the recently discovered iPhone3,1, if it does indeed come out some time next year.

AT&T to release the eXpo Dec. 7th

According to Engadget and other sites the eXpo running WM6.5 will be released soon and will offer an optional Pico Projector to mount on the back.

Among other things, the full QWERTY slider’s packing a 1GHz CPU, a 3.2-inch touchscreen, a 5 megapixel camera, a microSD slot, and of course that removable Texas Instruments projector

It will be available for $199 on contract and $179 for the optional projector. (Press Release after the jump)

iPhone 3GS SUPREME – The worlds most expensive phone

I am going to give some unnecessary coverage to another crazy phone that only the rich can appreciated, but us common folk can laugh at. If I was to get my hands on one of these for free, I would sell it immediately (if I could find a sucker), pay off my house, buy a Harley, quit my day job, give some cash to charity, and then buy a regular iPhone 3GS. This thing would cost you 3.2 Million dollars. What a waste.

Priced at £1.92 million , 10 months in the making , the whole casing was created with 271 grams of 22ct solid gold . The front bezel houses 136 flawless diamonds colour F ,which total to a massive 68 cts . The rear logo in solid gold has 53 flawless diamonds amounting to 1ct and the front navigation button is home to a single cut very rare diamond at 7.1 cts. The chest which houses this unique handset is made from a single block of Granite , in Kashmir gold with the inner lined with Nubuck top grain leather , which weight is a massive 7kg. Happy Thanksgiving Mobilitysite!

Happy Thanksgiving to our all readers on behalf of the staff here at Mobilitysite. Without you guys, this site would not be what it was back in the Aximsite days and it definitely would not be what it is today, almost 7 years later. This ride all started out on Aximsite in December 2002, then I created Mobilitysite in April of 2005. Slowly but surely, Aximsite faded into Mobilitysite and here we are 7 years later, still kicking. For this opportunity, I am truly thankful. I am sure I speak on behalf of all the contributors to Mobilitysite when I say, THANK YOU, the readers!

Most importantly, I want to thank my family for putting up with this ridiculous obsession that I have for mobile tech and building sites that end in the word site. My wife has been all too tolerable to all this over the years and my kids have been forgiving as well. As they get older, I am neglecting the site more and more in attempts to spend more time with them. Thanks Bonnie, Brittney, and Brett!

Still important… From the bottom of my heart, I want to thank all the volunteers that assist me here at Mobilitysite. You guys are the glue that keeps this all together. I know and you know that all these readers aren’t here to hear me blab about my obsessions. Thanks guys!

I am not going to say much about this, but if you are interested, hit the jump to see. It’s not all that bad, it involves a little foul language, but hey… I know some might not appreciate it. I find it’s funny and props to the guy that took the time to get it set up.

Merging
In other news, I am going to go forward with merging iPhoneMVP and GotZune into Mobilitysite. I will provide some filtering of content as well as separate RSS feeds. I won’t do this until I have it set up right. Really though, Zune news is slow unless it’s launch time and iPhone News is everywhere already. What we’ll have for iPhone is mostly reviews, tutorials, and commentary.

Dell Inspiron Zino HD

Dell has just released what’s in my opinion on of the best Media Center machines in the market: Inspiron Zino HD. Why I’m saying this?

Very small I easy to hide in your living room.
Starting price of $229
Full customizable with options for a Dual Core AMD processor and an ATI Radeon HD 4330 512 MB Specifications – Video Card video chip.
HDMI and VGA output.
1080p full capable.
Integrated DVD player and Burner and an optional Blue-ray player.

Here is the First review I have found about this just released machine.

…this is quite a capable little device that was whisper quiet with low power requirements. It was able to handle just about everything I could throw at it without issue. Even at the base configuration, to have such an elegantly designed, HD capable machine available at for $229 from Dell is astounding. It would be hard to build a similar machine yourself at that price.

Ready to upgrade your Moto-Q? Get an Ozone!

For the last year or so I have had a Motorola Moto-Q 9c Smartphone (Verizon). For a Windows Mobile Standard device, a darn good phone. It did take me 3 of them at the beginning to get one that didn’t have a sticky key or something but that’s another story. Once I got past that initial problem the phone seemed to work fine.

Just recently, the “Q” developed a bit of a sticky key on the main keypad. Nothing serious – it still worked but it was enough to be annoying when I was writing a text message. So I dropped in at Verizon and discovered that my account was eligible for my annual equipment upgrade. So … I chose to get an HTC Ozone to replace it.

USB, Mini, Micro – What is what?

I am not ashamed to admit it, but I have thought all along that a certain connector was micro USB this whole time, but I was wrong. I did a video last night of Sprint’s Samsung Intrepid Windows Mobile phone and I accused the phone of having a proprietary connector. I was corrected, I disagreed, I was corrected again and now I know. This whole time, I have thought the wrong connector was micro. You live and you learn. That said, I am going to educate others that might not know!

One of my complaints over the years has been all the different chargers and the lack of standardization in charging in general. That all seems like it might be changing with some of the groups pushing the industry for a standard. About 8 months ago, the GSMA announced a push towards making micro USB that standard. More recently, Zealot posted a story on the same subject where some major manufacturers are planning to get with the program in 2010.

Under Monday’s accord, phone makers Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Apple, Motorola, Research in Motion and others will introduce the single charger by next year.
