Get a $100 Check from HTC!

OK, if you want to upgrade your phone, HTC has the deal for you. From November 27^ththrough December 31^st, you can trade in your current smartphone in on the purchase of an HTC Tilt 2, HTC Touch Pro2, HTC Imagio, or HTC Ozone. If your smartphone is on the approved phone list, you can grab a $100 rebate check from HTC. The approved phone list is decent sized too!

The way it works is simple. Once the new phone is purchased, the customer can go to the appropriate site below and enter their specific promotional code. This will provide them with a mailing label, which they use to send their old smartphone, a copy of the UPC code from the new phone, and a copy of the invoice from the new phone. After that, they get a $100 check in the mail!

Dell Inspiron Zino HD

Dell has just released what’s in my opinion on of the best Media Center machines in the market: Inspiron Zino HD. Why I’m saying this?

Very small I easy to hide in your living room.
Starting price of $229
Full customizable with options for a Dual Core AMD processor and an ATI Radeon HD 4330 512 MB Specifications – Video Card video chip.
HDMI and VGA output.
1080p full capable.
Integrated DVD player and Burner and an optional Blue-ray player.

Here is the First review I have found about this just released machine.

…this is quite a capable little device that was whisper quiet with low power requirements. It was able to handle just about everything I could throw at it without issue. Even at the base configuration, to have such an elegantly designed, HD capable machine available at for $229 from Dell is astounding. It would be hard to build a similar machine yourself at that price.

iPhone clone with a full keyboard

Like I said in my previous post, sometime the clones have more features than the original devices.

Known as the DaPeng T2000 Wi-Fi TV Cellphone, the actual phone itself retails for around 150USD through Western retail channels, less on the streets of Shenxhen, and is in fact very similar to a host of iPhone clones floating around the markets of China with specs that measure up fairly well against any of them. Dual SIM, GPRS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth etc on a device that is slightly thicker and shorter than the Apple original, featuring a slightly smaller touch screen. The OS is the standard Apple OS clone that you’ve seen on most of them. What makes it stand out is of course the keyboard/wallet.

PPC TECHS RAM UPGRADES ARE CHEAPER NOW

Yep, that’s right, PPCTechs.com has lowered the price on all their RAM upgrades. A good deal of the readers here are from the Aximsite/iPaqHQ days so I am sure you remember these upgrades well. Back in those days, it made a huge difference having on.

Wal-Mart Opens Back to School Season

We aren’t even in August yet but already major US retailers are announcing their Back to School electronics values. The NYT today is reporting that US retail leviathan Wal-Mart is increasing their laptop selection by 40% in a drive to become a major force in PC shopping this year. In addition they are aggressively blurring the line between Notebook and Netbooks by dropping prices and intensifying the focus on consumer PCs.

To start with they are featuring a full size notebook, specially designed for Wal-Mart by Compaq, for $298, cheaper than many netbooks. A similar version with HP branding sells for $548. No word on the actual specs of the device.

Wal-Mart is also targeting students and kids with cheap ($398) laptops from Dell in colors like purple and aqua with matching peripherals such as cordless mice and external hard drives.

What about Netbooks for this school year? Wal-Mart’s Senior VP for Home Entertainment Gary Severson has this to say…

…Wal-Mart views low-cost netbooks as a "growth" category. Netbooks, the bare-bones PCs, generally sell for $300 to $400, but prices are dropping as new offerings flood the market and wireless carriers offer subsidies with the purchase of a data plan.

Severson said Wal-Mart is looking at ways to offer shoppers deals on netbooks that come bundled with a wireless plan.

"We’re having conversations with carriers and with the hardware manufacturers around that, and are really trying to find where that great value sweet spot is," he said.

While some customers are attracted to netbooks by their low prices, Severson said they do not always realize its capabilities are limited compared with a notebook computer.

"There is an education process that has to happen with the customer, and we’re working on how we can improve that because there is a confusion factor," he said.

Looks like we can expect more of the same in 2009/2010 as far as netbooks are concerned…confusing numbers of new models, falling prices, more deals including 3G data plans and an ongoing struggle to remind the marketplace that netbooks were never intended to do the same things are more expensive notebook PCs. Half the price, half the size…is less functionality so tough to work out?
