Remember a few weeks ago, when I explained I was looking forward to being able to see Windows 7 Embedded, the new version of good ‘ole WinCE in action on one of the two upcoming Eee Pads, the EP101TC?
Well, forget I said anything. Asus has announced they will NOT be putting W7E on the device in favor of Android (possibly Froyo, maybe Gingerbread, who knows). The larger of the two Eee Pads, the EP121, will still run...

Not to be outdone by MSi at Computex, Asus has presented a Windows based iPad rival as expected, the Eee Pad, in several different flavors…as well as something a bit different to take on the Ebook Reader and Academic markets, the Eee Tablet.
First of all, Asus is showing off the Eee Pad EP121 which runs Windows 7 Home Premium on a 12 inch touchscreen, powered by an Intel Core 2 Duo CULV processor and featuring an integrated...

Being the OS that runs on 90 percent of the world’s computers still gets you some bones, at least in Taiwan. iPhone Central is reporting that as we get closer to Computex, one of Asia’s premier tech trade shows held yearly in Taipei, at least two tablet products that had previously been announced as Android or Chrome devices have switched over to Windows 7 and will likely find themselves in a race to be the first...

OK, this isn’t really mobile technology, but it is vaguely relevant and made me smile so I am posting it.
Asustek Computer announced, in a departure from it’s normal focus on budget minded consumer products, it’s very first supercomputer this week. It is called the ESC 1000 and doesn’t use an Atom. The ESC 1000 hits computing speeds of up to 1.1 trillion flops (floating point operations a second). Just for perspective,...

Randall Boggs: Shh. Shh. Shh. Shh. Do you hear that? [pause] It’s the winds…of change.
It seems that there has been a bellweather change in the days since the burst of enthusiasm right before the release of Windows Mobile 6.5. Even though a number of cool new phones were released or are on the way utilizing the newest version of WinMo (yes HTC Leo, I see you there in the back), a wave of disappointment and hopelessness...

More information about the rumored Asus Eee entry in the rapidly expanding Ebook Reader sweepstakes….and it is SO typical of Asus it just hurts. Not only are they jumping into the pool, they are doing so with both feet while holding an anvil and reading a book called “How to Swim”. According to the London Times, Asus is planning on bringing two Readers to market, one “budget”, one insanely lux

Wow. It’s about time. This one has been sitting out there ready to launch for quite some time. I was really thrilled to get a look and some play time with this one back in April at CTIA. Check out my 1st look after the break.

Politics are usually something I try to avoid on the internet. Lord knows we all have enough reasons for sleepless nights and high blood pressure (parenting for instance) without adding the endless partisan demonizing that goes on over the internet due to politics.
However, there are some things that go beyond politics and enter the realm of ethics and basic human rights. As I am sure all of you know, the current government...

Has Asus given up on being Linux’s vanguard in the consumer marketplace? Back when the Eee 701 was the new hotness it came with Linux , and it was widely considered a sure thing that such netbooks would popularize Linux in the real world. Companies like Asus were seen as Open Source saviors who would heavily promote Linux as a cheaper, less bloated alternative to Windows software for weaker machines.
Guess not.
A new...

Garmin-Asus and ASUSTeK Computer announced the Garmin-Asus nüvifone M20, an all-in-one phone, mobile web browser and premium navigation system with a Windows Mobile operating system.
This is the first Garmin-Asus nüvifone and they are certainly starting out right because this device is powered by Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional. The M20 is a dual-band 3.5G/tri-band GSM phone that has Wi-Fi connectivity, a desktop-like...

I believe that this year we are going to see a shift in the current netbook design to a convertible type of netbook. The reason why I think so is because I see that with the integration of touch support in Vista and W7 more and more companies are releasing devices with Touch screens. We have seen even users that after they have bought a Asus Eee the first hardware hack they do is to add a touch screen. And Asus is a company...

It seems Santa left a lot of Aspire One and Eee Netbooks under trees, which has resulted in vendors Acer and Asus continuing to drink the good egg nog regarding their 2009 sales figures.
According to Digitimes, Acer moved 500,000 8.9 inch Aspire One-series Netbooks in the US alone during the month of December. Based on that, and with the release of the new 10 inch Aspire One supposedly just around the corner, Acer is...

I think that there is nothing more important now than saving money and this is a key factor in why many are turning their eyes to cheaper devices like netbooks and to be more specific to the Eee PC S101.

While the newest member of the Asus Eee Family (the Waltons of PC brands) may not be quite as mobile as a Netbook, it sure is interesting. What had been originally leaked as the Eee Monitor is now being released as the Eee Top.
This all in one unit features 15.9-inch touchscreen, Microsoft Windows XP and a 1.6GHz Atom along with sleep styling and some interesting surprises, such as what is apparently a Denon sound system...

This kind of reminds me of when the Dell Axim x51 was released. The graphics chip, VGA, Fast 624mhz processor, and more. These things had the X51 looking like men among boys. That’s what the Asus P565 looks like along side the HTC Diamond in video below. The Asus is sporting a WHOPPING 800mhz Processor. It’s about time we see someone exceed 624mhz. Damn…

One of the trends I have been expecting to see in the Netbook arena but haven’t much yet has been the companies with strong brand recognition or channel structures to begin throwing their weight around.
The fact that companies like MSi and Asus have been holding their own against goliaths like HP and Dell has really surprised me. As the back to school season came and went, I was more and more surprised that HP, Lenovo...

Digitimes is reporting that sources close to Asus say that the notebook producer may be rolling out double screen notebook PCs as early as Q1 of 2009. A prototype of the two paneled device (pictured) was displayed at Computex this year with production models expected to feature panels of less then 12 inches.
Two panel notebooks are intended to take advantage of the enhanced touch screen and multitouch support planned...
