Sound ID will be offering a NEW bluetooth headset that will have PersonalSound custom hearing modes to boost your listening power and Environmental Mode to amplify sound between calls. In addition, it will be compatible with the new Sound ID CompanionLink Remote Microphone.

There are three unique features worth noting:
1) PersonalSound, which consists of three listening modes tuned to the most common hearing preferences to further enhance speech clarity without raising the volume. This feature is only found on Sound ID products – no other Bluetooth headsets offer this capability.
2) The Sound ID 400 is the only headset to deliver Environmental Mode, a feature that enables users to hear equally out of both ears in-between calls. When the Environmental Mode is activated, the hearing ability is enhanced and soft sounds can be heard while wearing the headset – allowing clear conversations “On” and “Off” the phone.
3) Additionally, the headset is the only one of its kind to be compatible with the optional Sound ID CompanionLink Remote Microphone – creating a Personal Sound System. The CompanionLink is a small clip-on device, a mere two-inches in size, that syncs with the Sound ID 400 and can be worn by a conversation partner or placed near a sound source to pick up audio at its origin for a richer sound experience. This device can greatly enhance the clarity of speech in many communication situations, such as: (1) a distant talker, e.g. a lecturer; (2) a very noisy environment, e.g. a restaurant; or, (3) a talker whose speech is received as faint due to his or her physical location with respect to the listener, e.g. a passenger sitting in the back of the car.

The Sound ID 400 also offers NoiseNavigation, which uses multiple microphones and special DSP algorithms to remove background noise and elevate speech. The goal is to improve speech understanding in noisy situations. Finally, Sound ID 400 can connect with two devices simultaneously – enabling users to answer calls from two phones from the convenience of one headset. It is designed with a Black Velvet soft-touch finish.

From wired to wireless, I’ve used a number of different headsets over the years. The wired headsets are loaded with nothing but problems, the cord gets tangled up, or there is a break in the cable causing the sound to short out. So it’s no surprise to see Bluetooth headsets become so successful, as they don’t have that nasty cable problem. They also have more power and smarts than your typical headset. In recent years we’ve seen noise reduction become a big factor on Bluetooth headsets. And noise reduction is one place this BlueAnt has focused on with regards to their Z9i headset.

I have to admit when I first saw this I was pretty excited. The number of times I have lost my connection with my car kit because I was out of power has been too many times. It is just one of those things that I often forget to do and then it is too late. So then I have to dig into my car’s console, find a DC charger, attach it to my car kit and let it charge. The solCHAT is a solution for that issue and one that I am going to consider using for my car.

This environmentally conscious new Bluetooth speaker phone, called the solCHAT will harness the power of the sun. Powered by an integrated solar panel and lithium ion rechargeable battery combination, it utilizes voice announce technology, announcing calls as they come in so you can keep your eyes on the road while driving.

Scosche’s engineers worked diligently to make solCHAT easy to use, even with its advanced functionality. With only three visible buttons— volume up, volume down and the answer/hang-up multifunction button —the solCHAT is exactly what consumers are looking for. Using voice announce, the speaker phone let’s users know who’s calling and actually guides them through the initial Bluetooth 2.0 device pairing process. The solCHAT automatically reconnects to users cell phones once initially paired. Users simply turn the solCHAT on when entering the vehicle and the device will automatically pair with the cell phone. Users don’t need to worry about turning the device off since the solCHAT will automatically turn itself off once the cell phone is moved out of pairing range.

The solCHAT retails for $99.99, and it comes with a USB charging cable and car adaptor just in case you run into days without sunlight. It has a windshield suction cup mount and a sun visor clip as well to make for easy operation and solar charging.

The solCHAT is now available at www.scosche.com and at retailers across the nation.

If you live in one of the states that recently passed a law where you could no longer talk on your phone while driving unless you are hands free, the smart thing to do is just obey the law. Right? Well, if you aren’t going to do the “smart thing”, you can grab a discount after you are caught and decide maybe you should do the “smart thing”. A couple headset makers are offering discounts to those of you that don’t do the “smart thing”.

Here are some deals you can take advantage of if you have a ticket for this…

You can grab a Jawbone headset for $20 off if you get a ticket.

Headsets.com has 734 Plantronics Discovery 925 Bluetooth headset units to spare for the first applicants who have been busted for talking while driving without using a car kit or handset.

Jawbone is running the similar promotion, offering $20 discount to those that broke the law.

These companies are really creative to think about taking advantage of the unfortunate by luring them in with a discount. They are already going to reap huge rewards with those laws being passed anyhow.

I consulted with fellow humor experts such as my immediate family to help judge which two submissions were worthy to receive the two Callpod Dragon BT Headsets, an lo! we have our winners! <insert trumpet fanfare for old Imperial Margarine commercial>

Product: Tritton AX Visor Universal Bluetooth car kit
Price: MSRP $119.99 (significant discounts can be found on the web)

The devices we choose to use in our everyday mobile life are generally pretty cool and for the most part satisfy our needs but it is the “peripheral” devices that enhance the enjoyment of the device. One such “peripheral” that is fast becoming mandatory for all of us to have is a Bluetooth hands free car kit . Most states today already have mandatory laws on using cell phones while driving and each month, another state joins those ranks. I would expect that soon we will see all states will have some sort of law on the books regarding the use of cell phones while driving.

In April, TRITTON Technologies announced the arrival of their AX Visor Universal Bluetooth car kit. It is a state-of-the-art speaker phone with caller ID display and had both unidirectional and omnidirectional microphones making communication while on the road seamless. I liked the device and posted a news item referencing its characteristics.

Shortly after that news item, a representative from Tritton called and referenced several of the previous reviews I had done and asked if I would be interested in getting a review unit to look at. I indicated that I was interested and within a few days the AX Visor was at my door waiting for me to experience its capabilities.
