There are an immense number of phone choices out there to fit the needs and desires of virtually everyone. For me, my choice has always been a Windows Mobile device because I have always found the OS to be the best for my needs. I have been pretty adamant about that choice and rarely have a desire to wander away that is until I had the opportunity to check out several Nokia devices over the past several years.

I have used a half dozen or so of the N-series devices and frankly have liked each one. The quality has always been outstanding and the functionality of each device has more than met any expectation that I have had for a device. A couple of weeks ago I was asked if I would like to try out the Nokia E75 and with all the positive experiences I have had with the N-series, I thought this would be an excellent opportunity to check out an E-series device … and boy am I glad I did!

Nokia has a slew of devices that can meet the needs of virtually everyone. The E75 is a device designed for the Business user with a variety of very cool features. The following two videos were taken while on the road on a visit to Amish Country in Pennsylvania. The review box arrived as I was pulling out the driveway so I had to wait until I got to Pennsylvania to check it out for the first time.

Part 1 gives you the same experience I got as I opened the box for the first time.

Forgive the shakiness in this second video as I tried to show some of the features. I was not planning on doing a video when I packed before the trip and unfortunately I did not pack a tripod.

An interesting aspect about this device is that it has two distinct modes: one for work and the other for personal use; a neat feature for folks that want to distinguish between the two. Navigation, Communication, Applications and email all coupled with Photography, Internet, Music and Video make this device a terrific addition to the Nokia line.

My Impressions of the Nokia E75 will come tomorrow.

Philip Elmer DeWitt, Fortune’s Apple columnist, took a look today at why the iPhone is still not cutting any ice in the enterprise and is still firmly viewed as a consumer device.

A conference call with four major CIOs was organized by Morgan Stanley and of the four, only one provided IT support for iPhones and then only for their “creative” employees….and they are not planning on doing so in the future.

Asked to sum up why, the CIO of a major Silicon Valley semiconductor services compnay said this…

“Apple is way behind BlackBerry in terms of centralized management of these devices,” he said. “They’re starting to catch up, but in terms of being able to control and manage what is on the device, to configure the device, to do remote provisioning of the device, to make sure the device works — we can do that for the BlackBerry; we can’t do that for the iPhone.

“It’s a solvable problem, but there’s no business case — at least in our industry — for solving that problem. And so do we don’t do it.

“What’s interesting about the iPhone is [that] the capability of the device is tremendous,” he added. “We’re looking closely at it. There are a lot of people in IT who play around with it. So I wouldn’t say we have our heads in the sand. And as Apple catches up on the centralized management issues, it’s not out of the realm of possibility that we would replace BlackBerrys with iPhones, or add iPhones to the mix.”

Considering the fact that Apple now seems focused on positioning the iPhone as a gaming and lifestyle device, having given up even paying lipservice to business customers, I can’t see the position of corporate IT changing any time soon. The iPhone, and Macs in general, are just too closed a system for them to work with.

Unless Apple decides that a serious presence in the boardroom is worth as much as long lines outside the San Francisco Apple store and happy college kids, the doors of Enterprise will remain closed to the iPhone.

Joshua Topolsky, Engadget’s Editor-In-Chief, tried to use his iPhone to get work done while waiting at a doctor’s office and was, to say the least, unimpressed. In fact, using the iPhone for work actually turned out to be a chore.

You can read the article for the full experience, but his biggest complaints more or less in order were:

Lack of multitasking ruining his concentration

Lack of a physical keyboard making typing difficult

AT&T’s poor coverage in New York City

Apple’s notification pop-ups proving distracting

My favorite quote from the story? "The experience on an Android device, S60, the Pre, a BlackBerry, or even Windows Mobile just makes more sense."

So how does Windows Mobile stack up against Josh’s points?

Windows Mobile has had multitasking since before it was Windows Mobile.

While not every device has a physical keyboard (like my Omnia), many do — and in multiple different formats, like slide-out and QWERTYbar.

Windows Mobile devices are available on every major carrier in the U.S. and many minor carriers, allowing you to choose the carrier with the best coverage in your area.

Windows Mobile Professional allows customizing how notifications are displayed.

I wonder how many iPhone blogs will be reporting this story, much less agreeing with its conclusions.
