Dell Dropping Ubuntu PCs

Posted by Zealot on Jul 25, 2010 | 11 Comments

Dell has traditionally been one of the few major PC manufacturers to feature Ubuntu machines alongside computers running Windows…but that has changed. According to PC Pro Ubuntu-based notebooks have disappeared from Dell’s UK website. (UPDATE: Four models running Ubuntu appear to be still available on the US page, thanks ricegf) While this may not be especially surprising, it is certainly another blow to Ubuntu and...

Dell’s Garriques Streaks at All Things D

Posted by Zealot on Jun 03, 2010 | 1 Comment

Dell’s Communications Solutions president Ron Garriques presented the new Dell Streak at the All Things D conference to Walt Mossberg and posse. As one expects from Mossberg, since it didn’t come from Apple he was not much interested in it, but the Streak looked good in the onstage demo and Garriques showed the unique aspects and Android goodness of the device off well. When Kara Swisher questioned him about the...

Dell Mini 5: the iPad killer?

Posted by ctitanic (left mobilitysite) on May 26, 2010 | 9 Comments

The Dell Mini 5 has what’s needed to be a iPad slayer. Including the metallic back cover. But I doubt that this is going to be the case because Dell does not have the marketing machine owned by Apple. Enjoy Jkk’s video about this wonderful machine. Engadget has a prototype Dell Mini 5 in their possesion. This device looks hot and to top it off, it’s a Dell! You all know how much I love Dell products right? I just bought a Dell Alienware Aurora ALX the other day and this will most likely be my next Dell purchase! Head over to Engadget for a full spread of this beauty! AKPC_IDS += "36037,"; Read More →

Dell Mini 3 AT&T’s First Android

Posted by Marilyn Torres on Jan 06, 2010 | 3 Comments

One of my gadget wishes for the New Year actually came true! Dell has minted a partnership with AT&T to release the Dell Mini 3 handset, which had a previous November 2009 Asian release, in the United States. AT&T offers a large Wi-Fi hotspot network and promises to both expand and improve their existing 3G network, where this slick Dell handset will bring the versatility, simplicity, and speed of Android to the...

Dell creates communications division- Chris will be Happy

Posted by Stephen Borders on Dec 04, 2009 | 5 Comments

I just noticed this on Engadget. Since the days of the Axim many hoped that Dell would get back in the fray. Hears hoping they offer the value that they had with the Axims. Any way here is what Engadget had to say. Turns out Mini 3i is only the beginning. Dell has announced plans to create a new Communications Group with a focus on mobile phones and similar portable devices. Current consumer division head and former...

Dell Smartphone is a go! China and Brazil 1st. The Dell Mini 3 Coming!

Posted by Chris Leckness on Nov 13, 2009 | 8 Comments

As a long time fan, cheerleader, and supporter of Dell, I am very pleased to announce that I have personally confirmed that Dell is coming to market with the Dell Mini 3. I am not claiming to have broken this announcement as I 1st saw a Google alert to a Cnet story, but as many times as we’ve had false alarms on upcoming Dell products, I had to hear it from the horses mouth. I just got off the phone with my long...

Dell Mini 3iX hits the FCC

Posted by Chris Leckness on Nov 06, 2009 | 1 Comment

Look what we have here boy and girls. Dell’s Android powered phone that was launched in China earlier this year looks to be making it’s way home finally. Those that have analyzed the FCC filing seem to think that AT&T might be the landing pad for this phone. As someone that uses AT&T, I sure hope so! I wouldn’t be surprised if Dell skipped the carrier relationships and sold it unlocked though. If you...

All I can say is WOW! 2 thumbs up…

Posted by Chris Leckness on Oct 21, 2009 | 1 Comment

1st off, Zealot already posted some info on this Dell MID, but I found a video over at UMPC Portal that puts me in a delighted, “kid waiting for Christmas” state. Two thumbs up here… 1 thumb for Dell doing something I like again. (boy I miss the Aximsite days) The other thumb up is for it being a hot looking device. Thanks for the eye candy Chippy. It’s got a multi touch interface, a weak sounding battery, runs...

Dell’s Android Phone to AT&T? Rev up your rumor engines…

Posted by Chris Leckness on Oct 07, 2009 | 4 Comments

Don’t let the title fool you, I am not saying this isn’t going to happen, but I do know that in this site’s history (dating all the way back to Aximsite days), rumors about Dell phones have run their course. I am almost desensitized to it all. This current rumor has me with my ears perked up though. We do know that Dell has released the Mini 3i in China already. It is an Android device and doesn’t look too bad....

China To Be Site of Smartphone War by Proxy

Posted by Zealot on Aug 28, 2009 | 1 Comment

The web is abuzz with news of the 3 year deal between Apple and China Unicom to supply iPhones to China. This comes just two weeks after China Mobile revealed a deal with Dell to create the Dell mini3i, a smartphone that appears to be custom made for and exclusive to the Chinese Market. Now, CIO Magazine is reporting that a third big Chinese Carrier, China Telecom, is in negotiations with Palm to offer the Pre in China,...

Dell Mini 3i Smartphone is official

Posted by ctitanic (left mobilitysite) on Aug 17, 2009 | 1 Comment

Finally. After 1,999 different rumors over the last 5 years, Dell has finally launched a phone. It was on display in China for the launch of China Mobile’s new Application Platform that offers music, video, and app downloads to mobile phones. The 3.5-inch 360 x 640 pixel device with capacitive touchscreen was on display in China running the Android-based Open Mobile System (OMS). The Mini 3i was on-hand as part...

More Dell Smartphone Photos Appear

Posted by Chris Leckness on Aug 13, 2009 | 6 Comments

Not exactly sure why all the spy shots have to be of MS Paint quality. With the advancements in cameras on cellphones these days, it’s a shame that all the spy shots seem to be blurry cam specials. Nonetheless, another round of rumored “Dell Phone” photos have emerged. The rumored name is going to be the Dell Mini 3i. Sort of sounds like the Dell Axim X3i huh? Well, I was hoping Dell would name their phone, when...

Dell Tablet PC Rumor

Posted by ctitanic (left mobilitysite) on Aug 04, 2009 | 2 Comments

According to, Dell and Intel are preparing a Tablet PC that should be released “by the end of the first quarter of 2010”. Dell and Intel are just the latest examples of a growing trend. MKM Partners analyst Tero Kuittinen said he, too, has heard rumors about not just Dell, but also handset makers Nokia and HTC delivering tablets by end of first quarter 2010. also points that this and the rumor...

HP Still #1 Globally, Dell & Apple Lose Ground

Posted by Zealot on Jul 15, 2009 | 12 Comments

The IDC just released PC sales figures for Q2/09 and it is clear the poor economy was having a big effect on sales. Overall sales were down both in the US and globally with Dell being the big loser, dropping a fifth of their 2008 share in 2009. That translates to losing about 5 percent in real market share in the US and 2.5 percent globally. Acer increased by about the same shares that Dell lost and is growing fast in...

Breaking the Green Dam

Posted by Zealot on Jul 05, 2009 | 11 Comments

Politics are usually something I try to avoid on the internet. Lord knows we all have enough reasons for sleepless nights and high blood pressure (parenting for instance) without adding the endless partisan demonizing that goes on over the internet due to politics. However, there are some things that go beyond politics and enter the realm of ethics and basic human rights. As I am sure all of you know, the current government...

To Hackintosh or not to Hackintosh

Posted by Zealot on Jun 29, 2009 | 5 Comments

In a bold move, Dan Frakes over at MacWorld has decided to see what all the fuss is about, and bought himself a Netbook (A Dell Vostro A90 to be exact, one of the most hackinsoshable of the current Netbook crop) in order to see what running Mac OS X on a device that small would be like. For Frakes, it was clearly and somewhat predictably a mixed bag. Regarding software he had this to say… I’m able to use most...

Dell Smartphone Blurry Shot?

Posted by Chris Leckness on Jun 15, 2009 | 7 Comments

What do you think, is Dell finally going to hit the smartphone market? It’s not too late, but they could have been in it so long ago. Oh well. I think this could be legit since the last couple Dell Smartphone rumors said Android. If it is legit, it’s about time.   Judging by the shadows, It doesn’t look thick enough to have a built in keyboard and there doesn’t seem to be any buttons on the...
