Microsoft Reader Updated

There is a NEW version of Microsoft Reader for Windows Mobile that was just updated this week. For those that have had activation issues in the past, it has been fixed and from my usage over the past week, all is working perfectly. Microsoft Reader is for Touchscreen devices (hopefully a smartphone version will follow).

For those of you that have not used Microsoft Reader before you might ask: “What can Microsoft Reader do for you?” Well here are some of the features that make Microsoft Reader unique.

Poll: Digital Music, How do you Roll?

In light of a post I caught on PPCT today, I figure this would make for a good conversation. Before I ask the question, the article on PPCT is about Yahoo Music shutting their doors. I won’t speculate, but could it have something to do with Microsoft trying to buy Yahoo and having it’s own all you can eat music store? Any, Ed Hansberry reports that Yahoo Music users got an email stating that they were shutting down and their DRM licenses would expire September 30, 2008.

I love the concept of renting music. Sure there are albums you want to have forever and ever, but really, how many times can you listen to Shania Twain’s Up CD? Really. So I opt for the all you can eat plans that cost ~ $15.00/mo, that way I can download all I want, keep what I like and try some new stuff next month. I used Yahoo Music for 2 years before jumping into the Zune Pass all you an eat plan. In fact, Just yesterday there was a little Twitter buzz about how cool the Zune Pass is.

Rhapsody "embracing" the iPod

Rhapsody is offering songs online and via partners including Yahoo Inc and Verizon Wireless,that will be sold in MP3 format, so iPod users can now take the challenge … iTunes or Rhapsody.

Described as “Music Without Limits”, Rhapsody will be available on mobile phones via the Verizon Wireless VCAST Music service. Buyers of a song over-the-air directly from phones also will be able to download that song to their computer. Verizon Wireless is a joint venture of Verizon Communications Inc and Vodafone Group Plc.

A Pocket Full of Books

I have always been an avid reader. Every bookshelf in my home is filled to capacity (and I have a lot of book cases). Lately I’ve been exploring electronic options (no bookshelves needed :)), and I’m delighted to report that I have loaded up my SD card with books. Now, whenever I’m standing in line, waiting for an appointment, or just hanging out, I’ve always got a miniature library with me to keep me occupied.

The subject of electronic books (referred to here as eBooks) and Mobile Devices is quite large and somewhat complex. In this article, I’ve attempted to give you enough information to get you started. At a minimum you need to know something about eBook Reader software, you need a basic understanding of encryption and Digital Rights Management and you need to know where to go to get the books.
