Bluetooth Icon for Samsung Omnia and Epix

Here is a very neat free download for users of the Samsung Omnia and the Samsung Epix. For some reason, the Bluetooth icon does not appear on the task bar when it is activated but not to worry folks because the folks at CareAce have decided to develop a patch to display the Bluetooth icon when Bluetooth is activated.

There is also another very addition to their little application.They have included adjusted the icon for when the Bluetooth transmission is visible or not by utilizing the letter v right next to the Bluetooth icon.

Samsung EPIX Slog Dump Issue Fixed

For those of you that have the Samsung Epix and have been plagued with an irritating “Slog Dump” issue, there has been a fix posted at the Wireless Forums from AT&T

A fix is now available for the Samsung EPIX Slog Dump issue. An AT&T Care Representative can send the patch directly to your phone. The update will take approximately 5 minutes to install. This process will not involve a hard reset of your device, but please ensure all important data is backed up prior to calling for the update. Please call 800-331-0500 for this software update.

Piel Frama Does The Samsung Epix

One of my long time favorite case makers is Piel Frama. It’s really a tie for my favorite between Piel Frama, Sena, and Vaja. It comes down to different reasons for each. Anyhow, Piel Frama has just announced a case for the Samsung Epix, the SGH-i907. This is the hot “blackjack-like” phone on AT&T right now.

Available colors: Black, Tan, Black/Tan, Red, Green and Blue color. Available also in: Cowskin-Crocodile and Cowskin-Ostrich

Review: Samsung Epix

Back in October I posted a news item about the new Samsung Epix where I said that if you are lusting for a new device and you are an AT&T user then check out the new slim touchscreen Samsung Epix with a full QWERTY keyboard! I liked the looks of the device and was initially impressed with the feature set that included Windows Mobile Professional 6.1, global coverage for those that travel, decent memory stereo Bluetooth as well as Wi-Fi. I liked the look of the device and felt that for those that wanted a reasonably powerful device that could be used easily with one hand, this was one to consider.

My thoughts about the device were further bolstered by commentary from others after they had tried it. Chris Leckness indicated in his use of the AT&T Epix that he was about to go 4 days without a charge. That was impressive although he did indicate that his use was moderate. I liked that especially since I generally carry two devices with me so one generally gets used far less that the other so having the ability to have a device last several days without having to charge it was very enticing to me.

Chris Leckness did a 1st Look Video that gave an excellent overview and I walked away with the very strong feeling that I wanted to give this device a try. The biggest reasons were the 1800mah battery , the keyboard and WiFi. Although WiFi is probably not a big factor for many folks here in the US because our data coverage plans are so good, I am in an area half the year that I have little (or no) coverage and so I tend to use WiFi to check my mail and a few feeds. So I got a call the other day and was asked if I would like to take a look and give the Epix a test drive … of course I said yes.

Turn off the Mouse on the AT&T Epix

One of the strongest points that the BlackJack has is it’s easy one handed use. Pulling the phone out of my left pocket, I can have email checked in seconds. Scroll down the new messages and delete or reply with one hand. In the first bit of time with the Epix, the mouse makes that a bit more difficult. While the mouse is quite simple to navigate, it’s not really ideal for how I use my phone. There has to be a way to disable that thing, right? Well, we are in luck.

You can turn the mouse off and enable the pad to operate in 4 way navigation mode. This doesn’t turn the pad into a dpad though. It turns it into a touch pad similar to the one on the Zune. You now slide your finger up/down or left/right to navigate. It’s not the best navigation method for me, but it works better for me than the mouse.

AT&T Samsung Epix (i907) Unboxed

BGR has got their hands on one that we all knew was coming, but didn’t expect this soon. WOW. Nice Job. They don’t seem to think too highly of the device though…

Counting out the AT&T Tilt, this is probably the thickest phone in their line-up. Now, you do get Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional with a touch screen with Haptic feedback, a QWERTY ‘board, optical mouse, 850MHz/1900MHz/2100MHz HSDPA and GPS. So, for some, that might be enough of a reason to overlook the beast-like form of the Samsung Epix. We’re highly disappointed with the screen in general as it looks extremely dated and pixelated — much like the Samsung Omnia.
