It’s been a long time in the works, the G Phone as it was once called makes it’s 1st debut. When Google was 1st rumored to hit the cell market, it was believed that the GPhone (as an iPhone competitor) would be a single phone. We learned later that it was a platform that google was working on. That platform has developed over the last year and it finally hits the streets today in the form of the T-Mobile G1. The G1 is what we know in the blogosphere as the HTC Dream. It’s here. Another player in the Mobile Phone Market. Read on for the press release…

Introducing the T-Mobile G1 with Google, the first phone powered by Android, an innovative mobile software platform. Available for T-Mobile customers spanning two continents, the T-Mobile G1 combines full touch-screen functionality and a QWERTY keyboard with a mobile Web experience that includes popular Google services such as Google Maps Street View, Gmail, YouTube and others.

Since we are nearing the launch, there is a bunch of buzz going around. The G1 has leaked out onto T-Mobile’s website already and someone also caught some spyshots.

Fellow Mobius Member, Sasha Sega (PC Mag) posted an interesting about Andriod and it makes some interesting points. What if the 81% gets even larger because of Andriod? Then it still is competition for WInMo and Blackberry.

Android’s true target isn’t the 19 percent of phones running OSs, like BlackBerry, Windows Mobile, and Mac OS. It’s the other 81 percent of phones, which aren’t smartphones and run operating systems you’ve never heard of like Nucleus and P2K. This large part of the market we call feature phones has become more and more powerful, hardware-wise, over the past few years. But these brawny handsets are still stuck with software stacks designed for the 20th century.

Don’t really believe that the T-Mobile G1 is the HTC Dream? T-Mobile told us themselves directly on their website…

This should be what people are calling the HTC Dream.

The high-end phone, which will be made by the world’s top smartphone maker High Tech Computer Corp, is expected to challenge Apple Inc’s iPhone as well as other smartphones that run software from Palm Inc, Research in Motion, Microsoft Corp and Nokia Oyj.

According to “people briefed on the company’s plans,” the HTC phone will go on sale in the US “before Christmas, perhaps as early as October.” The NYT’s sources also say that the 5-row QWERTY slider from that Dream video (embedded after the break) matches the HTC device that T-Mobile will sell.
