HTC Fuze Official ROM Update

HTC has been busy lately. Launching new phones, updating old ones. Excellent!

Here is an official updated ROM for your HTC Fuze, you know, the AT&T Branded Touch Pro 2 that just got upended by the Touch Pro 2 as my favorite! Here is what HTC says this ROM brings…

Microsofts Windows Mobile Adaptation Kit Update (AKU) 1.4.6
Slide to Answer
Push To Talk Button is now re-assignable
FM Radio Application
Enhanced MS Voice Command
Call waiting indicator is now audible when using Speakerphone
HTC Music player supports Album art/info
Improved TouchFlo3D (TF3D) and User Interface performance
A-GPS Update: Speeds up the time it takes the GPS to get a fix on your location
Quick GPS is still recommended for the optimal operation of GPS based applications and services

Make sure to head over to the page for the ROM and follow the directions carefully, I would hate for someone to fry their Fuze!

MS Deal : HTC Fuze for $150 at Newegg

Thanks to Breley for letting us know about a sweet deal at Newegg.com. This is almost 1/2 off what you would get the Fuze for directly from AT&T. Of course, as with many deals like this, you have to be a new customer and sign a contract.

HTC Fuze Edges out the Engadget Battle Royale

Seems they could have really left out the Sony Ericcson Xperia X1. It’s a very similar style to the other 3, but it’s an unsubsidized phone and really serves as odd man out in this lineup.

The bottom line is this: with the exception of the X1, the phone you ultimately choose from this group is more likely to be determined by your current carrier than by your personal preference. Fortunately, we found that the differences between the three were minor enough so that you really shouldn’t be too bummed out by that realization — they all have their niggles, and we’d vote that the Fuze is just barely the best of the bunch — but they’re ultimately variations on the same damn theme. The X1, on the other hand, is in a league all its own; crazy pricey, crazy beautiful, and moderately more tricked-out than its brethren, it’s the cream of the crop as WinMo goes. Would we pay $800 for it over a $300 subsidized Touch Pro, though? Without a stratospheric salary, that’s a tough sale.

So basically, we have 3 variations of the HTC Touch Pro going head to head in this Engadget showdown. The HTC Fuze edged out their vote. Read the entire story at Engadget.

HTC Fuze vs. Xperia X1

BGR has thrown up a pretty good side by side comparison review of the Xperia X1 and the HTC Fuze. He likes the Fuze, no surprise there huh?

At the end of the day, what phone is better? That’s the ultimate question isn’t it? I personally crowned the AT&T Fuze as the best Windows Mobile device out there. Am I sticking to it? More or less, yes. Here’s why… The XPERIA X1 is a fantastic Windows Mobile phone. But the more we use it and evaluate it, the more we think its target market shrinks. Not so much because the device is sub-par, it’s quite the opposite. It’s just that we feel the only consumers interested in the X1 will be prior Windows Mobile users that know what they are doing and know how to handle the shortcomings in WinMo. Then there’s the $800 price tag which will certainly push a huge segment of the target market away. Like real, real fast. Looking at both of them from a consumer’s perspective, there really isn’t any reason to not go with the Fuze. Even if you’re not on AT&T, paying $500 for an unlocked unit is still better than paying $800.

Not exactly sure how they are making money on this or what they are really about, but this is a smoking hot deal. This website has offered other stellar deals in the past, but the catch (as is with Amazon) is that you normally have to be a “new” customer. HTC Fuze on Ebay, 11 Hours left…

Sure looks like it. Caught a post on wmpoweruser this weekend pointing to an Ebay auction for the Fuze. The sad thing is that being pointed to Ebay caused me to buy a limited edition Zune (only 10 made). Either way, this is good news for those that are waiting on a Fuze. The rumored launch date has come and gone, but I can’t imagine that it should be much longer.

At the time of posting, the bid is $550 with 11 hours left.
