Could the ZuneHD be the last Zune device, despite sales?

Now that we have the ZuneHD selling out, will there be any more to fill the shelves and homes? Not exactly consider the future of Microsoft plans to introduce one more Zune device then exit the arena and return Windows Mobile focus. Microsoft is planning to aggressively get back into the mobile device market but not to market a ZunePhone as we often hoped for in the past. After my recent email with an insider at Microsoft a few questions have been cleared up and confirmed.

The Tropical Jacket/Vest from SCOTTEVEST

It is no secret that I am a SCOTTEVEST fan and have been one for years. Why? Because they make quality clothing that has provided me with great solutions for carrying all my gear when I am out and about. I have several absolute favorites starting from my SeV Evolution that I wear all Spring and Fall to my Scott Jordan Signature System which is my choice for for my Winter activities. But there is a now a NEW jacket that is absolutely perfect for those cool nights in the summer called the Tropical Jacket/Vest and I am very impressed.

This Jacket/Vest gives you 18 pockets to carry almost anything you want and coupled with the Personal Area Network (PAN) to “wire” your jacket, you will be enjoying your devices seamlessly as you travel. What I really like about the Tropical Jacket/Vest is the ability to zip off the sleeves to make it a vest for a little cooler effect in the summer. It is made of a Supplex fabric coupled with a mesh lining providing you comfort and versatility in warm weather.

Yesterday I spent the day wearing it as a vest and later in the evening, I attached the sleeves easily as the temperature dropped into the mid-60’s. I like it and think you will too if you are looking for a great way to carry multiple items comfortably in warm weather.

Opera Mobile – New beta released

If you are an Opera user then there is a NEW beta (9.7b1) out that you can try. There are a few issues but I am sure they will be worked out rather quickly. Note that when you go to the download page, there is a NEW Widgets Manager add-on for Touchscreen devices.

Live Mesh has an Update for Mac, Mobile, Live Desktop

There is a Service Update for Mac, Mobile, and Live Desktop according to the Live Mesh blog. It is live right now but I am having some difficulty with it rendering on my desktop and difficulty logging in from my device. I’m sure it is just a temporary bug … at least I hope so.

UPDATE: It’s working … well almost. The desktop is fine but the mobile gives an error indicating the timezone is wrong. Are you experiencing this issue?

UPDATE#2: One of our Mobilitysite members found a fix for the Mobile Device error! Special thanks to Russell Thomas who found that if he went to mesh.com on his device using IE. and re-downloaded the cab to his phone that after it installed it over the old version it worked fine.

The Live Mesh team is pleased to announce that our next update to Live Mesh for Mac and Windows Mobile ~~will be available later today~~ is now available. We will ~~also be updating~~ have also updated the Live Desktop. This release continues to tune performance and brings a few tweaks to the user experience, see details below. Our next update to the Windows software will be coming in the next few weeks.

The last location used in the folder synchronization dialog is now saved.

Live Mesh News will displays the date and time for all news events.

Fixes

Improved the update experience

Device status (online/offline) now properly displayed on the Live Desktop

News now correctly displays the year.

For those of you keeping track, we’ve also moved Mac, Mobile and Live Desktop to a single version numbering scheme. The new version is 0.9.4014.3

FingerPoint for the Omnia

So if you don’t like it, make your own!

In fact that is what an Omnia user did when he got tired of the application launcher on the Samsung Omnia. So he decided to write his own and I think it is very cool! Called FingerPoint, it is a sleek application launcher that is very finger touch friendly (as you watch the video you will see just how friendly it is).

So you like it huh? Well if you have an Omnia then you just might want a copy and you can get it for FREE here.

EASY SMS … Simple Texting

This is something worth checking into if you are a big “texter”. After just a few days with my new device I found a few stylus scratches, needless to say, I was a very unhappy camper. However I saw this today and what caught my eye was it was a “finger friendly” means to texting. I’m going to give it a shot … it is FREE so there is nothing to lose and it might well prove to be a very cool program.

EASY SMS will provide you with a comfortable interface to send and receive SMS messages in all circumstances.

Texting with the standard Windows Mobile SMS interface is not always very convenient. The text is very small and hard to read in many cases. Replying or sending a new text message by using the stylus and the tiny onscreen keyboard can be a real pain and is just impossible in situations where you don’t have both hands free. If you have been carrying around a Windows Mobile device for a while, this will definitely sound familiar to you.

Here is a neat little addition to your mobile warrior kit. IOGEAR announced the release of its 3-port USB 2.0 Mobile Hub, which combines 3 “extra” USB ports and a mini USB cord that you can use for syncing or charging your device. It definitely looks great and will give you some extra added capabilities in a neat package.

Priced at just under $13, the three USB ports have extra spacing to allow the use of “larger USB cables”. The transfer rate is rated at speeds of up to 480Mbps. If your device requires no more than 350mAh and 5V of power, then this might well be something you should consider.

New version of TinyTwitter

Do you Tweet?

Do you have a Windows Mobile phone?

I do and I love TinyTwitter. It’s the best mobile client for twitter bar none (try it and see) and it’s now even better.

How could it get better you ask (because you already use it…. right… if not…. try it now!)

It’s better in two ways…

Picture uploads: append a picture to any tweet and it gets posted to TwitPic. You don’t need to do anything, magic just happens. Click to see what I’ve uploaded.
Geolocation: if you have a GPS you can tell everyone where you are. It takes the boring latitude and longitude numbers your GPS returns (built in or bluetooth connected) and can do a reverse address lookup to tell you where you are near (not close enough for stalkers to find you!) and posts it to your timeline along with a Live Maps link so people can see where you are on a map as well.

So if you want to try out the (new) goodness go to TinyTwitter.com on your PC or direct to m.ttwt.at if you are viewing this on a phone.

Oh, and there is a J2ME/Blackberry version available as well if you’re not a Windows Mobile user.

Oh, and on the PC I still like Digsby for updating Twitter and checking Hotmail and Gmail…

What sports do you do?

As a geek I’m guilty of perhaps not getting as much exercise as I need. Part of the problem is finding the time but that comes down to motivation. With the wonders of this socially networked age it’s easier to use technology to help with that motivation.

The geek in me likes stats. If I know I’m doing good, and overall improving against myself or friends then I have the incentive to keep going and doing better. You can do something simple like maintaining an excel spreadsheet or twittering your workout but as someone who’s recently rediscovered cycling after 20 years in cars I’m really blown away by SportsDo. All you need is a Windows Mobile device with GPS capabilities, a data connection and … to get off the computer and get some exercise!

Your first step is to register on the SportsDo.Net website and create a profile. From there you can download and install the Windows Mobile client (other devices are supported) or you can visit their over-the-air provisioning site directly from your phone (you can try out the application before buying – you’re just limited to the distance you can cover).

Your life on the go

Lifecasting is a big thing at the moment. One step beyond blogging and tweeting is the ability to record and broadcast live video from a cellphone to share what you’re doing – and engage with your audience.

Qik is probably the best known of these, and is slowly rolling out an early beta service for Windows Mobile users. But Qik are not the only game in town – there are a couple of existing solutions that have great support for Windows Mobile users.

LiveCast provide a live video streaming platform for Windows Mobile and laptop or UMPC users. The video is synchronized with GPS position data so your viewers can see where you are when you’re broadcasting (or when they review archived footage where you were).

While the video quality on LiveCast (formerly known as PocketCaster from ComVu) is pretty good for high end phones the client is not the most intuitive (so expect to spend some time figuring it it), and the web site is a bit clunky.(...) Read the rest of Your life on the go (192 words)
