Posted by Zealot on Aug 28, 2009 | Comments

As the iPhone is finally getting rolled out into all sorts of smaller markets (like, y’know, China), Apple is predictably running into all sorts of unexpected difficulties as well. Take for example Israel, a very small but insanely tech savvy market in the Middle East. Unlike in some other markets, Apple is not even attempting to set up an exclusive deal with a carrier in Israel. Apple has deals in place with the three...

Holy Shift!! The Shift is soon to land in the UK!

Posted by Chris Leckness on Feb 07, 2008 | Comments

Back in March 2007, I got a chance to play with the HTC Shift at an exclusive dinner with HTC. Myself and the others in attendance were floored at this device. We weren’t allowed to take photos, etc… In the last few months though, the Shift has shifted into the hands of many to look at and all that I have seen has been positive. Moving forward and almost a year later,  Reg Hardware is reporting that...

Posted by gasusan2005 on Oct 11, 2007 | Comments

From Modaco : Orange has confirmed that the Touch Duals to be used on their UK network will have the 16-key “phone” pad, rather than the quasi-qwerty 20-key flavour also available.   This raises some interesting thoughts as to which devices are viewed as competition to the Dual. Its clear that there is no love lost between Microsoft and RIM, however by chosing to avoid a qwerty layout it seems that...

But all of these phones have a major design flaw… Not one of them is Beer proof....

Vodafone… We took your N95 VOIP away from you… for your own benefit.

Posted by PsionAndy on Apr 22, 2007 | Comments

The Nokia N95 is (until the iphone shows up) the top of the tree phone in the UK this year. However if you buy it from Nokia you’ll find it rather different from the version you buy from say, Vodafone and Orange. And the missing thing is VOIP. All the networks got to tweak the firmware on the N95, but Voda and Orange actually got the VOIP hooks taken out. Now the cynical amongst you might be thinking that this is...

Orange and Vodafone play with each others toys…

Posted by PsionAndy on Feb 10, 2007 | Comments

In an all to rare outbreak of common sense in the UK, Orange and Vodafone have signed a deal to share their 3G networks RANS..  including masts,  antennas, power supplies etc.. At the moment Orange has a smaller 3G network and so obviously would gain a coverage, but Vodafone would benefit from the cost savings involved in having less masts to maintain. The show of goodwill isn’t going to change the way...
