This version of SkyFire is in private Alpha release and it’s intended solely for the Blackberry Bold at this point, but if all goes well expansion to other Blackberry devices and firmware builds is the logical next step. Looks like there are few features present that are familiar to WinMo users, but apparently weren’t in previous SkyFire Blackberry versions like click-to-call, “Set as Default Browser” features, and downloading files. The private Alpha release of SkyFire closed a few weeks ago due to an over abundance of users implementing the still very young release on untested Blackberry units like the Curve and Storm. Keep a close eye on the SkyFire main site for a public beta later this summer.

Mobilitysite and Skyfire have teamed up and spread the word about this innovative browser. Jack and others have shared info about Skyfire already, but look at the rendering below… It deserves another post.

Skyfire is the only way you can watch all the videos I post here on your phone. In fact, all of the multimedia here is viewable on your phone – and it will appear exactly like it does on the desktop. Unlike any other browser, Skyfire delivers speedy page loads, full audio, images and videos.

Check out Skyfire, a free downloadable browser available for Windows Mobile phones and Nokia N or E-Series (3rd Edition) phones in the US. Just go to skyfire.com to get the download. Read on for some FAQs about Skyfire…

If you have not tried Skyfire yet, you need to do so. Simply put, it is an amazing experience. I was fortunate to get in on the early beta program in the beginning of the year and have been truly amazed with the experience. Now you too can try it because Skyfire is giving Windows Mobile smartphone users everywhere an opportunity to take the latest beta version and test it out.

Skyfire is free and it will allow you to experience the internet like you do on your PC. Imagine, you can have the same experience on your mobile phone that you have at home … how cool is that? It’s “The Web”, not some mobile web.

The 0.8 beta of Skyfire is now available for smartphones running Windows Mobile 5.0 and 6.0 and you folks that run Symbian don’t worry, your version for Series 60 phones is coming very soon!

On the eve of the Olympics, we added Silverlight support to Skyfire, meaning that Skyfire users can watch any ofthe 2200+ hours of Olympics coverage provided by NBC on their mobile phones. To celebrate Michael Phelps’s monumental accomplishment of winning 8 Gold metals in a single Olympic games, today we have released a special code “Michael8” which will give new users access to Skyfire and the games (and the full PC web). Spread the code “Michael8” to your friends and let them part take in these historic games on the go.

The code will only be valid from the 18th to the 30th August, so readers will have to move fast to take advantage of this advanced browser and finally experience the Real Web on their mobile devices.

Out of the box Windows Mobile comes with cut down version of Internet Explorer called IEMobile (aka PocketIE) which, while reliable, is getting a little long in the tooth.

IEMobile is based on IE5 so there are many sites that can take advantage of the capabilities available on mobile devices today. With the advent of IE6 for Windows Mobile things should only get better.
