Samsung Moment Review – Do you have a moment?

Reviewing this phone has been a pleasure. I passed on reviewing the HTC Hero on Sprint because of the absence of a physical keyboard. That and the fact that Marilyn was looking forward to reviewing it too. The Hero was a great phone, but I had my eyes set on this Sprint Android powered phone. The nice looking keyboard lured me in, I admit it.

The Samsung Moment is an Android powered smartphone on the Sprint network that features a slide out QWERTY keyboard, an AMOLED screen, and all the other things that you’d expect from a modern smartphone. Maybe I should mention that it’s got one of the fastest non-Snapdragon processors out there, an 800mhz speedster.

So, we have all these features packed into an affordable phone, why have you never heard of it? Simple, there was so much buzz with the HTC HD2, the DROID, and others that it was launched with little fanfare. Video 1st Look – Samsung Moment on Sprint (Unboxing and Hardware)

Here is an Android phone that didn’t get much press because of all the hype some of the other Android devices are getting. This one is a Plain Jane Android release with no extra UI layer on top of it. After I did the unboxing and hardware tour video (after the break), I spent an hour getting familiar with it and I was pretty impressed. I know I was impressed with the Hero, but I attributed the great experience to HTC and Sense UI. With this experience tonight, I feel Android has come a long way in a short period of time. It’s much better today than when I first used the G1.

Samsung Intrepid from Sprint – Software Tour

The Droid, Storm 2, and others have made what would have normally been a pretty hot device, literally unnoticed. This phone was released on Sprint last month and kind of flew under the radar. I have given this a whirl for a couple days and see this as a good replacement for the Ace. Really nice piece of hardware and WinMo 6.5 runs pretty quick on it too! What are the Top US Cell Carriers?

We all know Verizon and AT&T are on top with Sprint and T-Mobile not far behind. Well, actually T-Mobile and Sprint are further behind that I thought really. I am not much on looking into the size or income of the carriers, but I was reading over at Fierce Wireless and this caught my eye.

I thought Celluar South was the largest independent carrier too. Check out how this chart looked for Q1 and Q2 also.

Samsung Intrepid from Sprint – Unboxing and Hardware Tour

Yesterday, I got my hands on Sprint’s 1st Windows Mobile 6.5 device, the Samsung Intrepid. It’s Sprint’s replacement for the Ace and is very similar to AT&T’s Samsung Epix. It was announced a little over a month ago by Samsung and Sprint. It runs Windows Mobile 6.5 Professional, meaning that it’s got a touchscreen. This makes this phone 1up on the Blackjack I and II and really makes the device quite usable. I have had some time to give it a spin and I really like it. I am sure most of you know how much I loved the Blackjack and Treo 750 with their front facing QWERTY keyboards. Check out this video and standby for the software tour in a day or two.

Sprint launches BlackBerry Curve 8530

Sprint launched the BlackBerry Curve 8530 that is “Coming soon to the Now Network” today in an interesting Royal Purple color and the more obvious Black. It has the same specs as the T-Mobile version that has been released already.

Palm Pre Ownership costs $1250 less than iPhone 3GS or Droid?

That’s what Billshrink says at least. It’s a generalized comparison assuming that everyone is going to grab unlimited data and voice. This plays into Sprint’s hand no matter what device it is since Sprint’s unlimited voice/date package is unparalleled at this time. So it doesn’t matter what phone you put up against it using those numbers. Of course, if you throw out the unlimited voice, that number shrinks quite a bit, but Sprint still wins out in this scenario too.

Sprint adding CNET editors’ ratings on their site

Sprint has just added the option to view not only customer ratings of your device of choice but also CNET’s as well. The CNET editors’ rating is right underneath the customer ratings and is viewed in the same 5-star format. Click on the stars icon and a CNET summary will pop-up right beside the chosen device.

Sprint’s HTC Hero Available Now

Have you been waiting on October 12th for the HTC Hero, the Sprint US CDMA variety? It’s online a day early according to Engadget. It will set you back $179 with contract and $479 without. Not too bad.

Marilyn just posted her review of this phone over the weekend and she loved it…

The HTC Hero is light-weight, has a large screen, and beautiful Sense UI interface. Internet browsing, skimming documents, scheduling events, reading emails, listening to and watching media, and keeping up with social networking on-the-go was less cumbersome and time-consuming. The keyboard was satisfactory but is awkward for typing anything longer than a quick email, and HTC could have done better with battery life. All that said with its hassle-free setup and intuitive interface, the HTC Hero can make a new smartphone user feel confident while still being a powerful enough handset for seasoned users. If the HTC Hero ever made it to AT&T , I would be an early adopter.

HTC Hero: A Review

After a thorough software walkthrough by Chris Leckness, it’s time to see how the HTC Hero fairs on the daily basis. Expect a solid run-through of this handset as I happily set aside my AT&T Tilt for a week, sorry WinMo, in favor of seeing how the Android half lives. I tried the Android Google Voice app on for size, read feeds, streamed media for hours, and put one of HTC’s solid Android offerings through its paces.

Samsung and Sprint Announce the WinMo 6.5 Powered Intrepid

Introducing the Samsung Intrepid. (wonder if Dodge minds) This one is very similar to the Samsung Ace on AT&T. It’s got Windows Mobile 6.5 and has a 2.5” touch screen 320×240 QVGA device. It will be available on Sprint’s network on Oct 11th, 2009 for $150 w/ contract. Sprint sees it as a great addition to their business device portfolio.

Sprint HTC Hero Video Camera Test

Palm Pre For $99 Delivered

Rick Broida, the author of a book many of our member probably read (How to do everything with your Dell Axim), runs a blog called The Cheapskate where he finds and posts the deals online. He has one that might make some non-Sprint customers happy today. That is if you want to switch to Sprint for the Pre.

Though Palm recently cut the price to $149.99, Wirefly has the Pre for just $99.99 shipped.

That’s for new Sprint customers and with a two-year service agreement, of course. (If you’re already a Sprint customer, you can get the Pre for $139.99 with a two-year contract extension.)

Sprint Touch Pro 2 Supersized Post

OK, I’ve been really busy the last couple days so I have not been able to share the hot news that Sprint has the Touch Pro 2 now. Lot’s of news on this has surfaced the last few days. If you are regular reader here, you know how high I am on the Touch Pro 2, so I want to share all I can about this awesome phone. While I am still using the EU version of the TP2, it’s making it’s way to the US and I am personally hanging tight for an AT&T version. Here are the news bits about Sprint’s version:

Sprint announced the Touch Pro 2 for $349 on August 31st.

Sprint and HTC Corporation are answering the call for a no-compromise converged device on a blazingly fast network with HTC Touch Pro2. The attractive new phone combines the productivity of Windows Mobile® 6.1, the vibrant TouchFLO user interface and a variety of fun-to-use entertainment applications, including Sprint TV with live and on-demand programming, and Sprint’s exclusive sports applications NFL Mobile Live and NASCAR Sprint Cup Mobile.

Beginning Sept. 8, customers will be able to purchase HTC Touch Pro2 through the Web (www.sprint.com), Telesales (1-800-SPRINT1) and sales representatives for $349.99 with a two-year service agreement and after $100 mail-in rebate.

You can already preorder via phone sales from what I’ve heard too…

Next up is manuals and videos… Sprint has gone all out and offers all sorts of literature and familiarization guides online for the Touch Pro 2, like they do with other major phones…
