No No Nano in Some Gyms

A lot of people weren’t happy with the video camera on the iPod Nano, but Life Time Fitness Centers took that one step further. Due to privacy concerns, they have banned the new nanos from their locker rooms, and are currently devising rules to ensure that no one is using the music player/video camera to catch some candid (and illegal) workout footage of their fellow health enthusiasts.

Using phone cams in gyms has been banned for some time, but it is pretty obvious in most cases when someone is using their phone to take a picture or video. Who usually talks on their phone or texts while holding it a foot in front of their face staring fixedly into the screen? However with the iPod Nano there is little or no way to tell the difference between that creepy guy on the treadmill awkwardly shooting video or sorting through his Hootie and the Blowfish collection.

Matt from Tracy and Matt’s Blog has done a variety if different videos that have shown us a myriad of devices but by far this is the best one he has ever done. Clearly he is a talented fellow! Check it out, not only will you see a little about HTC’s Magic but more importantly, you will enjoy a creative presentation!

The HTC Magic looks like being an extremely popular device. As the second Android powered device we are very keen to see what has changed and what the Magic has to offer over the original G1.

Samsung Alias2 – Slick Keypad Design

Hey, it’s NOT Windows Mobile but it sure has a slick keypad design that intrigued me. JenJen, a user from Howard Forums got the Alias2 a few days early from its official release and shared her thoughts as she tried it the first time. This was her “first” YouTube video and she did a heck of a good job!

Got the Alias2 4 days before release, so I’m doing an overview for the folks at Howard Forums. This is my first video, so please pardon the nervousness and “amateurity”. :) Please see this thread for more info; I already found a few things I forgot to include in the video.

After you check out her first video, she did a follow up video with just a couple of things she didn’t go over in her first video that you want to check out as well.

Long Zheng had this video up today that was just terrific and I wanted to make sure that you had the opportunity to watch it especially if you are a Windows enthusiast.

Once in a while we all, as Windows enthusiasts, come up with those great ideas the next version got to have. Some put it in writing, some vote (shameless plug), some Photoshop mockups, but rarely do we get concept videos as elaborate as Cullen Dudas’ “Copenhagen” user experience video.

Gates, Seinfeld and Ad #1

Mary Jo Foley had a post on ZDNet.com entitled “First Microsoft make-over ad airs: $300 million well spent?”. I missed seeing the ad during the NFL Season Opener so given the opportunity to watch it via YouTube the next day was pretty good. Mary Jo said she was “not wowed by the first in what is expected to be a series of star-studded ads designed to reshape Microsoft’s consumer image” and that made me want to click on the video even faster.

Well I’m glad I did … why? Because I laughed. It was well done and my guess is that as the series of ads continues, we will see more that will make us laugh more that will designed to reshape Microsoft’s consumer image. And maybe we will finally see some well done “swipes” at Apple!

Sprint Palm Treo 800w Video 1st Look

I apologize in advance for a couple things… a) The delay getting the video online. 250mb takes a while to upload to YouTube, b) some minor mistakes I made in the video and c) The length of the video. 20+ minutes is a lot to sit through. Of course, if you are in the market for the Palm Treo 800w, it’s worth it to watch.

Lifecasting is a big thing at the moment. One step beyond blogging and tweeting is the ability to record and broadcast live video from a cellphone to share what you’re doing – and engage with your audience.

Qik is probably the best known of these, and is slowly rolling out an early beta service for Windows Mobile users. But Qik are not the only game in town – there are a couple of existing solutions that have great support for Windows Mobile users.

LiveCast provide a live video streaming platform for Windows Mobile and laptop or UMPC users. The video is synchronized with GPS position data so your viewers can see where you are when you’re broadcasting (or when they review archived footage where you were).

While the video quality on LiveCast (formerly known as PocketCaster from ComVu) is pretty good for high end phones the client is not the most intuitive (so expect to spend some time figuring it it), and the web site is a bit clunky.(...) Read the rest of Your life on the go (192 words)
